Lanod Ferrin
Lanod Ferrin is the mayor of Virdin. He is in charge of the town in name only. Ferrin collects taxes, sees to the guard details, and referees as the various mine managers compete with one other, often at the expense of the town and their employees. He also has to deal with rowdy adventurers taking a bit of R&R from the Gate and stirring up trouble in town.
Unfortunately for Ferrin, the local garrison is under the control of the aging Valkus Dun, who feels that the town is far too liberal and chaotic. If Dun isn't giving him trouble, Ferrin usually expects it from the four mine managers, who employ most of the people in town and hold themselves above the law. The high priest of the Triad is a self-flagellant who feels like the whole town should whip itself in penance for its evil ways, and most of his citizens are miners who just want to let off steam after eight to ten hours of working in the Bloodstone Mines, once famously overrun with demons.
Yet somehow, miraculously, Ferrin does a passable job balancing all the various interests in Virdin.
