Virdin

Virdin is named after the last King of Damara, and acts as the natural link between Bloodstone City, The Vaasan Gate and the Bloodstone Mines. Nestled in a wide valley, Virdin is a mere 6 miles from the Gate and almost nine miles from Bloodstone City. The Bloodstone Mines surround Virdin, which gives miners a place to take their leave when not staying at the mining camps.     The town started with one large inn, the Snoring Giant. The inn's best customers are those visitors to the mines who feel more comfortable sleeping above ground than under. A half-dozen supply stores sprung up around the Snoring Giant to compete for business, offering gear for both mining and adventuring.     During the construction of the Vaasan Gate, the population of Virdin exploded from a hundred or so to about 2,500 residents. It went from village to town in a relatively brief period. Once the Gate construction was done, many residents left.     Since those early days, Virdin has rapidly expanded. A home to soldiers and adventurers from the Vaasan Gate, and miners from the various mines, Virdin has become a haven for those individuals who don't feel as comfortable in the "paladin's city", Bloodstone. The human mine overseers compete with each other for profits, and the local entertainment is decidedly less proper than Bloodstone City. Virdin hosts several brothels and gambling houses.     Virdin has a mayor, Lanod Ferrin, who is charged with keeping the peace and collecting taxes. The local military garrison is under the watchful eye of Valkus Dun, a paladin of Torm who dislikes the town's more liberal tone, but has little authority to reign in its excesses.     In addition to the tension between Ferrin and Dun, the managers of the nearby mines (Chaum Gansworth, Gelch Tilgast, Luzane Parrin and Ragnolin Dourstone), which employ the majority of the locals, wield considerable pull in town and place themselves effectively above the law. If it wasn't for the infighting between them, the town would be in their back pocket.     Virdin has quite a few abandoned homes and buildings which were deserted when the construction on the Vaasan Gate was completed. Mayor Ferrin actively courts adventurers from the Gate to visit Virdin and consider settling down in this "up and coming" town. Unfortunately for Valkus Dun, the influx of adventurers looking to blow off a little steam does little to tamp down the chaotic nature of the community.

Industry & Trade

Virdin nestles in the rocky crags of the Galena Mountains, three hours north of Bloodstone City to which it is subject. Iron, silver, and bloodstone from Virdin's mines fuel the capital's markets and support its soldiers and nobles with the raw materials necessary for weapons and finery.
