Valkus Dun

Captain Valkus Dun, the garrison's commander, distinguished himself in the Bloodstone Wars and has the respect of his charges and of the community at large. He cares little about the day-to-day politics of Virdin, and encourages his men to stay out of local business. He sees his job as critical to the defense of the Duchy.
He supports Lanod Ferrin out of respect for the political process that put him in power, if not for the man himself. He trusts his advisors more closely than any of his other associates. Valkus knows that the "common man" is unable to live up to the standards of a paladin, but he still wishes the town was a bit more like a warcamp that a carnival. He doesn't understand how Ferrin puts up with the mine managers, or the brothels, or the taverns, or the chaos of visiting adventurers, or…
Valkus is a man who values his honor above all. He has no fear of failure, everyone fails sometimes, but once he is set on a mission, he will not give up. His bluntness doesn't work well when dealing with Mayor Ferrin or the mine managers, and he has no respect for people who can't take care of themselves.
