Vault of Waukeen
This tall, soaring building is a marvel of engineering genius and is the temple of the god Waukeen. Carefully balanced, this polished obsidian edifice is made of levels slightly skewed from the one below it and then again with the level above that in the opposite direction, and so on. The design gives the illusion of a precariously perched building that should topple at any moment like a house of cards. Yet, despite its appearance, it stands firm.
Waukeen’s symbol is deeply engraved into the outer walls and the massive polished darkwood doors that allow entrance into the temple. Aside from providing a place of worship for Waukeen’s faithful, the temple also contains a highly secure moneylending and savings business with magically protected vaults for its customers to store their valuables.
The temple is governed by the Keeper of the Vault and District Councilwoman, Jostlin Ferrar and more than a dozen lesser priests. A score of members of the Brotherhood of Waukeen patrol the temple and its grounds both day and night. This, coupled with the guardians and magical wards in the temple’s most important chambers, makes this one of the safest places in Heliogabalus to store anything of value.
For parties depositing coin, there is no cost for the deposit, but a 1% surcharge for the withdrawal. If a person wished to secure a non-monetary treasure, the cost to rent one of the temple’s vaults ranges based on the size of the vault required - 10 gp per month for a simple 1-cubic-foot lead-lined iron drawer to 100 gp per month for a 1,000 cubic foot (10-foot-cube)chamber protected with dimensional lock and private sanctum spells.
The Vault also loans money, but requires some type of assurance of the return, up to and including a magical geas as insurance. As a rule, the Vault adds a 10% interest charge for short terms loans. The interest is added to the loan amount and the payments are determined from that amount. Long-term loans generally have a higher interest rate.
The Vault is also the home of Waukeen's faith in the Bloodstone Lands. The priests of Waukeen gladly sell their services as spellcasters and healers. Unusual spells may require a future appointment in order for the cleric to prepare the spell requested. Lesser priests and acolytes are generally able to cast 1st, 2nd, and 3rd level spells at a cost of 10 gp, 40 gp, or 90 gp respectively. If the spell requires an expensive component, the Vault can provide that component at cost + 20%.
Anyone requesting a casting above 3rd level must wait for an appointment with Keeper Ferrar, often taking days or even weeks to arrange.
