Mind Over Matter
A Character with this Power has something about them that keeps them conscious and moving, albeit briefly, when the physical damage they suffer has grown so severe that they ought to be unconscious. It may be extra reserves of adrenaline that temporarily numb the pain receptors that would shut higher brain function down at a certain pain threshold, or deliberate mental disciplines created through lengthy training, or a more distributed neural network than humans and even typical metahumans usually have.
It is by no means an Infinity Inc trademark to have this Power integrated at a 2 to 5 AP rating in most of their Hybrid Alpha Series Minions. They do seem to have refined it to a default part of their design framework, however.
When a Character with Mind Over Matter receives enough damage to their Current Body to pass the 0 threshold, even without use of Desperation Recovery or Last Ditch Defense they do not immediately fall unconscious. Mind Over Matter activates itself automatically, without any need for the Character to consciously make that choice. They may continue action for the number of combat phases equal to their APs of Mind Over Matter.
Start counting at the Character's turn to act. If that is within the same phase as when Mind Over Matter activated because the Character had a lower Initiative for that phase, then that counts as the first phase of Mind Over Matter. If the character had already taken their Initiative turn before the damage, their first phase of Mind Over Matter begins at the next Initiative.
Applied Restrictions
When the Character's APs in combat phases have finished, even if the Character has gotten their Current Body back up above 0 due to a Recovery Check or by other means, the Character falls unconscious and the Mind Over Matter power drops to 0 APs as if damaged. Mind Over Matter must be Recovered normally, starting at 15 APs {one day} for a baseline to determine when the next Recovery Check can be made.
If a Character with Mind Over Matter ever sustains any type of damage sufficient to kill them, this power automatically fails. Even in the face of not just Last Ditch Defense and Desperation Recovery plus the Invulnerability power, such a severe level of damage to the system is ruinously disruptive to the Mind Over Matter power.
As listed on Restricted Powers: Mind Over Matter can never be taken at more than 7 APs, not even by Fovos! If any fight ever lasts longer than 7 phases of combat after the Character should’ve dropped unconscious from damage, it’s time to wake up in captivity.
