Shattered Images
Life, Crime
Twisted nightmare versions of some of the world's Greatest Heroes take to the streets of Metropolis for nefarious purposes. The "Dark Captain" version of Captain America is a steroid-abusing brute; the "Dark Robin" version of Robin is a sniper.
Opposing them are any area heroes who can turn up, including (but not limited to) Wyldfire.
These "dark mirror images" were carefully chosen, altered, and trained by a powerful and dangerous mastermind to embody the criticisms of unregulated "law enforcement" vigilantes who separate their true identities from the consequences of their public deeds. The unseen mastermind keeps tight rein on these operatives through control of the addictive substances through which they gained their superhuman enhancements. How easily could the real Captain America be turned by similar manipulation? Who could stop him?
No one is really interested in those questions, given how swiftly the original "Dark Heroes" are taken off the board by Metropolis's local heroes!
The "Dark Captain" was a man in need of mental health care before he underwent the Shattered Image procedure. It drove him in particular into a truly deranged state of constant suffering and nihilism. In the combat he did so much damage to himself and the city around him that the bullet from his own teammate "Dark Robin", which finally stopped him, was a mercy.
(hidden for extra goriness)
(Later examination by the coroner found that the gunfire damaged this metahuman to the point of immobility and lack of sensation, but something that sliced his brain stem after he fell was the direct cause of death.)
In the kerfluffle, the real Captain America was also shot by "Dark Robin", who in turn was subsequently yanked out of his sniper's perch and disabled by
Feral. "Dark Robin" will become
Stirge, Feral's archnemesis, once his current employer catches up to him at the hospital.
Tales of Justice is a work of pure, unabashed fiction. In fact, it considers itself rather heroic and quite proud of itself. Names of characters, places, events, organizations, and locations are creations of the author's imagination for this fictitious setting. Some have been inspired by other sources, which will be credited at the top right of the article.
