Noctus God of Darkness, Death, and Decay

" And though this body may run cold, I pledge to Noctus all my soul, To break the seals and shatter chain, To show this world what is true pain."
— Common death chant said by cult members

Creator of the Void

Noctus is the evil god of darkness, death, and decay. Many say he is the source of all people’s negative emotions and fears—cold, cruelty, famine, grief, illness, madness, poverty, sorrow, woe, etc. He is thought to be most powerful in winter when the sun is disappearing and hope starts to fade...   Noctus existed at the dawn of time and it is believed he will be one of the only things remaining at the end of time. People who have never heard of the underworld still know the name Noctus. Cultures devoid of a word for temples or magic still fear the God's name. He is the threat of eternity that cares not for someone’s meaningless and feckless cries...   Some say Noctus is believed to have created the first sickness, which took the form of a black snake that covered the entire world. This black snake may have been ice or darkness. The unholy books of Tchernobog are unclear on this. Nevertheless, Noctus’s evil may be the oldest thing ever recorded.

Holy Books & Codes

The unholy books of Tchernobog - Believed to be a collection documenting all of Noctus Dark deeds leading up to and during the War of the Gods.

Tenets of Faith

There is no discernible dogma to Noctus beyond a desire to end everything good in the world. Even his followers cannot bring themselves to the full depth of depravity that Noctus expects. But they all die trying. Destruction of life and purity are paramount to his followers, and blood sacrifices are common among them.

Holidays

The Dark Night: Longest night of the year: It is said that on this day the evil creatures normally hiding in the shadows come out as the entire night would be their time to play under Noctus’s power and watchful eye. Due to this belief anyone and everyone stays locked tight inside not going outside under any circumstances.     Festival of Blessings – To prepare the day before, a branch from one of the sacred trees is cut and carved into a bowl. Runes are then scribed inside asking for what blessing you would like during the upcoming spring and year; peace, fertility or good health. Once this is complete, a special candle is then placed in the center of the bowl. After midnight, the candle is lit and left by a bonfire in the middle of the village. Everyone comes together once again for a special ceremony held at midday, where the elders incant a ritual spell ceremony, asking that the city be warded from the Spirit of Winter (Noctus) till next year ( This is believed to be part of the heat given off by the forest during Luxsian). After this ceremony, which lasts 5 hours, the people drink ale from their bowl cup (candle still lit hopefully), all hope to keep the candle going until midnight when they blow out the candle themselves. If your candle goes out beforehand, terrible luck will befall you in the coming year.

History

Before even the universe was formed Lusxaria and Noctus were already tied together in an eternal struggle trying to eliminate the other. It was this unending battle that brought about the universe as we know it. Even as being the original creators of the universe the two has never thought about stopping their fight as they believe the universe would be better off without the other. This continued on to create the First War and the sealing of Talos.

History

Evamire was created from a part of Noctus himself in an attempt to finally end Luxsaria and push the balance of their eternal battle in his favor. He did this by taking part of his darkness twisting and contorting it until it took shape. Once darkness begins to take form Noctus releases his hands letting it in the universe. The black shape stared taking in shadows and darkness around it until it was hit with a ray of light at this point the shape turned into the first moon reflecting back this one pure light as a tainted twisted version of it now know as moonlight. Out from the center of this new creation Evamire forms and awakens, taking her fathers position as keeper of the darkness while he rest's and recovers.

Divine Goals

Noctus exists to destroy anything hopeful or kind. He obliterates goodness wherever he finds it. Not in some meaningless villain way, like a chaotic evil ogre who smashes anything that opposes him—Noctus destroys with a meticulous dictum of unrelenting agony and disgust that rips away at humanity’s core. Whenever an innocent child dies of a horrible malady, it is Noctus who watches slowly and patiently for the goodness to drain from that child, little by little, until there is nothing left.
