Sar'aan

Summary

Sar'aan is the god of the individual, and the head of the Progenitor Pantheon, the first pantheon of gods in Talirim. He was the first to discover the power of creation and is considered the most powerful of the high gods, and is likely the only god capable of surviving the full might of the Titan-Minds for an extended period of time. He lead the first battles against the Titan-Minds across the unending expanse of the Titan Realms, and would lead the growing Pantheon of Progenitor gods during the Astral Crusades alongside a legion of Astrals.   In the modern era he continues to wage war against the Titans, now leading the effort to maintain the barriers between the portal to the Titan Realms and the edge of Talirim. Although he is capable of splitting his consciousness into multiple forms he rarely chooses to do do, as his war on the Titans requires all of his efforts. Despite the state of conflict in the world, particularly during the first age, Sar'aan is well aware that if the Titan-Minds, or even a few individual Titans, were to enter Talirim the strife that would cause would be far worse as proven by the Sundering of Tiorath.

Visage

Sar'aan takes the appearance of a tall man with a powerful frame, dark hair and eyes aglow with bright blue flame. His skin is tanned and his jaw is squared, as his features are derived greatly from the Astrals of the Sera'daan tribe, his people before and after he attained godhood.   He is most often seen wearing armor constructed from Golden Elmorine, the Sera'daan tribe's particular variation of the jade-like Elmorine stone used to construct the weapons and armor of the Astrals. The edges of the plates are trimmed in a lustrous dark-grey metal, making each plate distinctive and somewhat ceremonial in appearance. Flowing from his shoulder plates is a pair of thin capes, one either side. These capes are of a pure white silk interwoven with gold.

Personality

Sar'aan takes his role as the god of the individual very seriously, believing everyone must seize their own destiny. That does not by any means mean that he despises gathering in common cause or uniting for a common good (as the original Pantheon did so long ago), his only desire is that each individual finds their path by their own means, adopting their own methodology and reasoning.   He is soft spoken and measures his every word. He engages in an extreme degree of self control, believing that an excess of emotional reactions devalues your few truly needed emotional behaviors. The few instances where he does show emotion, such as losing his temper or celebrating alongside his allies have a far greater impact as they are seen far less often.

Relationships and interactions

Sar'aan is the husband of the goddess of sorcery Gessar, father of Ravennan, a close friend to the gods Nioss and Sericil of his pantheon, and to the god Olrad of the Godcaster pantheon.

History

Sar'aan gained consciousness at least a millennia before he discovered the power of creation and became the first of the gods. He was born among the near-immortal Astrals, the precusers to the more tame human races. The Astrals were Elementals, capable of manipulating aspects of the Titan-Realms that they named the Elements, Mastering fire, Ice, Lightning and far stranger aspects of their home. Given his appearance, it is believed by most scholars that Sar'aan was most adept in the arts of fire and lightning, however considering his discovery of creation he was just as likely adept at far stranger and long forgotten Elemental practices. However the truth of the matter is unknown even to the other gods.   After Sar'aan discovered the force of creation he put it too the betterment of his people, creating powerful Elemental guardians known as the Arcai, who combined the shifting power of the Titans and the permanent identity of Sar'aan. The creation of these beings only drew more attention of the Titans and most were destroyed. However they were not as easy to unmake as the Titans anticipated, angering many but impressing others. Some Titans saw the power that could be drawn from creation, and a few were willing to forge the identities required to wield this new power and became the first of Sar'aans Pantheon.   During the Astral Crusades (the war against the Titan Minds) Sar'aan led the gods, as well as the Astrals. His Astrals proved to be the greatest army of the gods, becoming one of the prime targets of the Titan Mind's alongside the Kiari. Toward the end of the Astral Crusade, during the later stages of the creation of the realms Sar'aan and the other gods would be cast out of the immaterial Proto-world. Although the races of the other gods had already been settled in the mortal realms the majority of the Astrals chose to stand by Sar'aan to protect the new realms, becoming trapped when the gods were cast out of the Proto-world.   Sar'aan would however manage to rescue a handful of his kin, cloaking them from the Titans at the cost of their immortality. These Mortal men would become humans, also known as the race of man. They would initially be settled on the Isles of Tiorath, the domain of Sar'aan. His island on Dorim is placed in such a way it frequently alignes with Tiorath where he can keep an eye on humanities cradle.   Sar'aan, along with the other Progenitor gods was noticeably not present when Tiorath invaded the mainland. On occasion he and his allies would manifest within the world to keep an eye on it however the bulk of their attention was centered on preventing the Titans from entering the world. They failed this task at the end of the first age when the Titan-Minds reached Tiorath. However Sar'aan was able to rally the Progenitor gods, and with the help of the Wilderun Pantheon the Titans were driven back and the Barrier restored. Now the Progenitors appearances are even rarer, as they struggle to keep the Titan-Minds at bay.
