My Beloved Nautilus
Historical Details
History
This letter was found in a small chest owned by Councillor Nautilus, she/they, of the City of Simmah. As one of the Council of Thirteen, Nautilus received a great deal of respect.
She died suddenly, of cardiac arrest, at the young age of forty-four sols. Councillor Nautilus is survived by her partner, Darwin, and their two children, Franklin and Sagan.
Shortly before her death, the Councillor experienced a lot of fatigue, but she refused to visit Health Services. Nautilus told those around her that the fatigue was because of stress and insomnia. She was incredibly busy and difficult to get ahold of, even by the other councillors. It’s unusual for a councillor to shirk their duties. It’s a coveted position. Only those who request to be considered are given the opportunity. It’s also a position chosen by popular vote.
At first, Nautilus cited her fatigue as the reason for her absence. But she was never home. Neither the Council nor Darwin knew where she was spending her time. After the other Council members questioned her honesty, Nautilus stated she was helping a friend.
No one knew who this mysterious friend was, not even her partner. Nautilus refused to give any information, telling those around her they would learn soon enough. She would also leave her identity pad at home, making it impossible to contact or track her.
Perhaps this letter is a hint. After discovering it, Darwin wasted no time in delivering it to the Council of Thirteen. However, by that time, Michiel Blackwood had unregistered his identity chip. No one had heard from him for several sol cycles
