Vocation of Education
The Thirteen Vocations
The Education Vocation is one of Thirteen Vocations. The vocations are the framework for government, civil services, resources, goods production, and distribution. The Talithan society is cooperative with each vocation acting as a decentralized government. Each city has it's own set of thirteen. The structure of the vocations in each of The Great Cities is the same, but they're separate entities. Each vocation has their own Deputy which works under the individual city's Council of Thirteen.Vocational Armbands
While on duty, Talithans wear armbands to show what work they are performing. These are used only by vocations, artisans and other indipendent workers don't have them. Each vocation has a base color. For Education it's primary blue (similar to the leaf on the side, more images to come later). Each branch has a secondary color. They also show their rank, Tier-I to Tier-III. They Deputy wears a star instead of the chevrons. The image below is an Ecologist from the Vocation of Preservation.

Structure
Organizational Structure:
This vocation follows the same basic structure of all vocations. It has a Tier System for promotions. The duties are organized into branches so they're more manageable. Education has five branches, each with a separate tier system. However, the Deputy of Education can come from any branch. Depending on a person’s skill set, it's possible for them to move from one branch to another and keep their Tier. They evaluate each transfer request on a case-by-case basis, there's no universal criteria that applies to all of the branches. Skills, current vocational needs, and the person’s reasons for changing are all considered.Branches:
Caretaking

The principal duty of a caretaker is overseeing the children’s wellbeing once they enter the School System. All children attend school as a basic human right. Caretakers watch children during and sometimes after school hours. Under some circumstances, children may live at the schoolhouse, in barracks, instead of with their parents. This gives them a safe space if their parents are not suitable. Any time a child asks to stay in the schoolhouse permanently, Child Advocacy gets involved. Occasionally, children will want to stay for a short time and, depending on the circumstances, this may be allowed. Teachers and caretakers do not contact Child Advocacy for all requests, only those that might hint at a problem requiring a higher level of attention. Caretakers watch all school children during the day, taking care of any basic needs so teachers can focus on lessons. Talithans do not divide children into classes by age. There are some subjects that require separation by ability. But there's also classes with everyone present. They teach community and empathy. The Caretakers make everything is safe for the younger children. Caretakers are always in charge of managing field trips, again so the teachers can focus on instruction. Teaching offsite is a regular occurrence. One of the most important lessons taught is the vocational system. With thirteen vocations and several branches in each, there’s a lot of area to cover.Instruction

Instruction is for teacher's and lesson planners. They teach all primary school students, and will cover some basic skills in the vocational specific school houses. What they cover varies by schoolhouse. Some vocations don't use them at all, preferring to utilize their own members. Education, of course, uses their own members as instructors. The main topic taught outside of primary school by Instruction is mathematics. Some vocations require an advanced level of math and having an expert math teacher is sometimes better than a vocation member. Along with teaching and curriculum, they manage the resources for primary schoolhouses.Curation

Members of curation act as historians and maintain the museums around Talitha Harbor. They will also teach history classes in the primary schools and vocational schools. The most notable museum being the Earthian History Museum in the bottom of the City of Anunitum Fortress. There are relics saved from the first humans to include part of the the Talitha colony ship There are also museums for art, technology, science, and the history of the Talithans as their own culture. The historians in the branch study the massive amounts of data left by The Founders. All of that data is digital and stored on a database by the Vocation of Virtualization . Curators will look for new information and connections that can be pulled from this data. That information isn't limited to Education, and occasionally people outside of this specialized field will discover new things. Curators focus specifically on history and leave the rest for others to comb through. If relevant, they'll work with other vocations to make sure they are getting the full picture and not missing anything important.Ecology
Green Chevron
This is another topic focused branch and different from the Vocation of Preservation's ecology branch. However, they work with them on a regular basis. Preservation has always been a very busy branch. They gave their public education requirements to the Education vocation when the vocational system was still new. Education's ecology gets all of their updates from Preservation, making sure they're not teaching outdated information. Preservation uses its own members to teach in their schoolhouses, but if they are short members, they’ll seek help from Education. This has been a more common practice in recent sols where membership has dropped.Library

The biggest library in Talitha Harbor is the digital library that everyone can access through identity pads and library tablets. Virtualization takes care of the hardware and software maintenance. The librarians upload the new materials. They also help Talithans find books they want, whether through their personal device or the library devices. There are physical libraries, buildings which have access to library pads and paper books. Books are only made on demand, to lower waste. Usually Librarians wait until someone asks for a book before requesting a print from Vocation of Communication. However, It’s not unheard of for librarians to request library copies simply because they want to read a book. For Talithans with identity chips a physical borrow is tracked on their identity pads. They'll get notifications on their identity pads when it's time to return the book. Chipless, Talithans without identity chips, must provide an address of where the book will be kept. If it doesn’t return within an acceptable amount of time, someone will come by and collect it. Their photo and fingerprint are also taken in case they give a bad address or disappear. Librarians will share this information to the other libraries in the three cities. They won’t be able to borrow from anyone until they return the book.Culture
The Vocation of Education is considered one of the more amiable vocations. Their world revolves around sharing information and taking care of the younger Talithans. They never have issues with recruitment, though not all who join stay.
It is not unusual for members of this vocation to decide they want something more specialized. Members of the ecology branch occasionally request a transfer to the Vocation of Preservation. At times those who work in museum research or the library branch may decide they want to do something more innovative. They don't always completely leave Education to do those jobs. Members of this vocation will sometimes double dip into another.
They are only officially paid for the work of one, though the secondary vocation may choose to give them extra credits to retain them. It's an agreement that will be made by the individual and secondary vocation before work starts. Some treat their secondary vocation as more of a hobby, then they are also not bound by timelines or anything else since the work is voluntary.
