Baraz Duicacht
These lands are the ancient trust of Clan Barazbarak, and are governed directly by this dwarven clan of warriors and military experts. They hold these lands in trust and as the Bulwark of Suranth. Nestled up against the Steppes, the dangers of the massive mountain range, the threats from the many and varied beasts and monsters that call the peaks home are of course all too present here. As such one should not be surprised to find a very military forward culture here. Though sparsely populated, as is the entirety of the Broken Fang Province, the places that are populated are bastions within the wilderness, well fortified, and well defended. The culture here is more what one would expect from all of Suranth, the people here heavily independent culturally, proud frontier types. For the number of people whom inhabit the region, this duchy in particular, along with the entirety of the province, has one of the highest rates of active military service. The region is known for this across the country, and soldiers from the region are generally highly respected all across Suranth, and indeed all across the north lands of Valerick. This region specifically, of course, holds one other claim to fame. In the new age of modernizing warfare, most every nation has seen fit to begin training their own 'new age' Special Forces, and Suranth is no different. Here, in Suaitheantas, and in the dangerous lands of the Steppes they are trained and forged. The famed Suranthi 14th Brigade, also more adequately and commonly known as the Iron Dragons. These modern soldiers may not all be born here, but it is here they are trained and forged to become what they are. That more than any other aspect, is what the Broken Fang Province, and even more specifically, the Baraz Duicacht is known for.
Geography
GEOGRAPHIC POINTS OF IMPORTANCE:
Pine River: This river is a vital route through a harsh region, and is controlled as one might expect such a place to be controlled. Regular patrols, heavily armed. The valley that is the Cragwood is the only real travel route through the Steppes, and this river is the central key transit route that the Suranthi people are in near constant skirmishes with various other denizens of the region for control.
Cragwoods: This forested valley, besides its obvious benefit as a route to travel through the Steppes instead of all the way around the massive mountain range here in Suranth, is also prime elk hunting ground, though rumor does suggest one may wish to be carefully how far off the more well worn game trails one wishes to pursue the search for game. For supposedly not all beings with antlers in the region are elk.......
CITIES/TOWNS:
Suaitheantas (11093):
Illiyav (5952): This large crossroads town is basically a hub for the region, well fortified of course, but it is a centralized location more so than a singular town, with pretty much everyone within near twenty kilometers calling it there home. In truth though it can house them all if required, only about sixty percent of the populous lives within the walls, the rest dot small thorps and hamlets all around within about twenty kilometers, along the Suaithi River, and the relatively fertile lowlands all along the river, farming, raising limited livestock; mostly goats, sheep, or turkey. Those living along the river fish its waters, harvest what other resources it can provide, or work in the river trade business in one form or another. It is also, in some less....savory circles, known as a smuggler's haven.
Llapthu (6712): This large town, a busy crossroads, is named in Dwarvhbe for the simple truth of it being a place of 'five routes' or 'five paths'. It is a busy place, where the lumber processing and railyard are the dominant industries and employers, besides of course the military, as this settlement, as a running theme, is heavily fortified, with a notable military presence in and around it. A center of commerce and travel, it is a place that is always busy, and one can almost always find interesting domestic goods for purchase from the other realms of Suranth, as it is the first regional point of contact coming from the north by rail. Whilst not the richest town, one will find plenty of people well off in this comfortable middle class town. Recently, however, there have been rumors of some strange activity, claims of some sort of group gathering in unused warehouses in the rail yards. Rumors abound, and some on the city police force seem.....concerned.
