Order of Silence

An order of mageslayers

A knightly order dedicated to seeking out the truth and banishing those who would either manipulate or threaten the way. The Order of Silence has long been a source of fear, especially for the Gemstone Realms and those wishing to study magic. The near-lifeless, grey eyes of the Orders paladins send literal nightmares and shivers up to mages spines. However, especially after such disasters as Mystvale, a grim truth has revealed itself: The Order is much needed.

Structure

Unlike the Order of Delivered Steel, members of the Order of Silence follow strict militaristic order and their soldiers and scouts follow a clear ranking hierarchy.

Knight-Commander

Knight-Commander is the rank of the ruling commander of Order of Silence. They are responsible on larger-scale plans of the Order and receive all of the reports of various incidents. The Knight-Commander is often required to be a person of great wisdom and deep insight to recognise repeating patterns in misuse of magic to discover secret cabals, covens and other threats to the common man.

Commander

Several commanders serve under the Knight-Commander and they are responsible for the upkeep of teams of knights and scouts and recruitment. Commanders are seen outside of the main Quietude Keep much more often than the Knight-Commander is.

Officer

Officers serve as the day-to-day lead of the Order of Silence. One officer accompanies nearly every mission tasked by the Knight-Commander and they are responsible for training of the Knights and Scouts of the Order

Knight of Silence

The bulk of the Order. Knights of Silence are often seen riding grey-to-white steeds and they don the orders colours: Cold silver and blue armor. Knights often wield heavy armor and tabards of the Order to be recognised and they rarely seek worldly pleasures, rather focusing on the task at hand. Knights of the Order are often raised from children to be more certain of their commitment to the cause.

Scouts

A slightly lesser-known variant of the more popular knight trope, scouts of the Order of Silence are deployed to areas where the Knight-Commander wishes to have his eyes and ears in. Possessing strange amulets personal to them, these scouts are used in digging out and revealing shapeshifting horrors amongst the society and tracking them down. On some occasions, these scouts are used as hunters as well if they recognise the target to be within their range of skill to slay.

Culture

Each Knight of Silence vows to follow the following tenets, known as the "Oath of Silence" :

TENETS OF SILENCE
Silence. Do not allow spellcasters to learn the ways to manipulate you. If you suspect someone a spellcaster with nefarious intent, the less they know about your person, the better.
Necessary Ruthlessness. Gilded fables of paladins and knights present them fighting against demons and undead. Your part of this fable is far more grizzly, when faced with a physically weak opponent who adorns no armor, do not hesitate to land your strike.
Restless Vigil. Be aware, that everything you perceive might be a carefully planted illusion. Question the logic of the world around you, make it certain that you are not under the charms of someone else.
Control. Decide on the trustworthiness of artifacts you come across. Can they be used to rid the world of evil, or do they turn you into an instrument of chaos? Same applies to people around you. Are they capable of controlling their powers and if they are, are they mature enough to control their spells and arcane magics?

History

Long before their founding in 612, most of the Order belonged in the Order of Delivered Steel. Another knight-like organisation focused on destruction and slaying of monsters and beings that threatened humanity. However, as some Knights recognised the Gemstone Realms themselves as a plausible threat with their self-rulership and mystical learnings, the Order of Silence was formed to combat against any rogue mages or spellcasters before they would lay a chance to summon or create the monsters the Order of Delivered Steel destroys.
