HMY Britannia
His Majesty's Yacht Britannia, also known as the Royal Yacht Britannia is the royal yacht of the British monarchy. Ordered by King William VI, Victoria II's son, but wasn't used until the first Commonwealth Tour following King Sebastian's Coronation. So far, the King has used the yacht four times for long distance trips and has lent it to his sister the Princess Royal as well as the Queen Mother multiple times.
Britannia was the 85th such vessel since King Charles II acceded to the throne in 1660, and is the fourth royal yacht to bear the name, the first being the racing cutter built for the Prince of Wales in 1893. During it's first major voyage, King Sebastian's first Commonwealth Tour, Britannia travelled more that 40,000 miles. Later that year, on His Majesty's honeymoon, Britannia travelled another 13,500 miles, making the first year of her career, the incredible distance of nearly 54,000 miles. A favorite means of travel for King Sebastian, and a second home, Britannia is an asset to Britain as both a diplomatic asset and a means for the monarch to withdraw from the more public lens of London.
Power Generation
Because HMY Britannia is built to Royal Navy Cruiser specifications, most of the power generation systems aboard Britannia are of Royal Navy design lineage.
Rolls-Royce 36-40 MW gas turbine as the prime mover in a relatively simple, yet flexible COmbined Diesel eLectric Or Gas (CODLOG) arrangement optimised to a warship hull design and operational profile.
Propulsion
CODLOG configuration:
1 × Rolls-Royce MT30 gas turbine
4 × MTU Type 20V 4000 M53B high-speed diesel generators
2 × electric motors
Communication Tools & Systems
The highly complex, fully integrated communication system sits at the centre of the navy’s largest and most powerful vessels, as well as the Royal Yacht, forming the central nervous system of the vessels.
The highly secure system provides ships with everything they need from on-board satellite connectivity to emergency internal phones and enables encrypted communications to be carried out with the vessel, to aircraft, neighbouring ships or back to shore.
What makes the onboard and fleetwide communication system exceptionally impressive is the system scale and level of complexity involved in integrating all of the communication bearers into a seamless, single solution.
Additional Specifications
Britannia was designed to be converted into a hospital ship in time of war. Britannia is considered an important part of the revised "Operation Candid". In the event of nuclear war, it is intended for the King and King Consort, to take refuge aboard Britannia off the north-west coast of Scotland.
