Sebastian I
His Majesty Sebastian George Charles Albert (a.k.a. Seb, Bastian, Bash)
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Sebastian is five foot eight inches with a diver's build. He has blond hair and amber/honey eyes. He is conventionally handsome, though it might be said that his extreme sex appeal comes less from his looks and more from the confidence he exudes, not because he actually is confident, but because of the air that surrounds most Royals.
Mental characteristics
Personal history
Early Life
Prince Sebastian was born on 21 April in St Mary's Hospital, London, as the first child of Edward, Duke of Cornwall, and his wife, Gloria, Duchess of Cornwall, during the reign of his paterna greatl grandmother Queen Victoria II. Buckingham Palace announced his name, Sebastian George Charles Albert, on 28 April. Sebastian was christened in the Chapel Royal of Buckingham Palace by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Milton Bentley-Keynes III on 4 June.
When Sebastian was seven months old, Sebastian accompanied his parents on their tour of Australia and New Zealand, as his first trip overseas. It marked the first time that a royal baby was taken on an overseas tour. Sebastian's younger Sister, Princess Anne, was born three years later, in August. Sebastian and Anne were raised at Clarence House in London, and Gatcombe Park in Gloucestershire.
Known informally as "Bastian" within the family, Sebastian was nicknamed "Seb" by his sister and "Bash" by his great grandmother. Gloria wished her sons to obtain broader and more typical life experiences beyond royal upbringing, taking them to sporting events, such as the Olympics, cinemas, AIDS clinics, and shelters for the homeless youth. A "rambunctious," "excitable" and "bratty" child with, biographers assert that Sebastian grew "more reflective" with a "noticeably quiet character" as he began boarding school at Eton. Queen Victoria II was reported to have described Sebastian as "my ever so precious Bash" whom she was incredibly close to.
Sebastian's close relationship with the Queen resulted in his frequent time in 'the Presence' and often being seen in the public eye, far earlier than most heirs. He was visibly precocious and compassionate from an early age, reportedly asking to spend time with those he'd been exposed to with his mother, often those in hospital or those experiencing homelessness.
His compassion led to his aquisition of the nickname "England's Heart."
Sexuality
For most of his life, the Royal Family did not comment on Sebastian's sexual orientation, leaving most to assume him to be heterosexual. Just a few months after his 27th birthday, Sebastian publically addressed his sexuality in an interview with the BBC in which he announced both his sexuality and his courtship of Rory Lewis Cameron.
In additional interviews, Sebastian has implied other relationships that he has called 'daliences.'
Education
Sebastain was educated at private schools, starting at Jane Mynors' nursery school and the pre-preparatory Wetherby School, both in London. Following this, he attended Ludgrove School near Wokingham, Berkshire, and was privately tutored during summers by Christain Phelps. At Ludgrove, he participated in diving, swimming, ballet, clay pigeon shooting, and cross country running. He was subsequently admitted to Eton College, studying geography, biology, and history of art at A-Level. He obtained an 'A' in geography, a 'C' in biology, and a 'B' in history of art. William was captain of the diving team and his house polo team at Eton, also taking up dressage.
The decision to place Sebastian at Eton went against the family tradition of sending royal children to Gordonstoun, which his grandfather and father both attended. Gloria's father and brother both attended Eton. The royal family and the tabloid press agreed that Sebastian would be allowed to study free from intrusion in exchange for regular updates about his life. Stephen Whickham, chairman of the Press Complaints Commission, stated "Prince Sebastian is not an institution; nor a soap star; nor a football hero. He is a boy: in the next few years, perhaps the most important and sometimes painful part of his life, he will grow up and become a man." While at Eton, he often had tea on weekends at the nearby Windsor Castle with his great grandmother, discussing state boxes and constitutional duties meant to "prepare him as future King."
While at Eton, Sebastian was admitted to hospital after accidentally striking the bottom of the pool while diving. He suffered a fracture of the skull and was operated on at St. Mary's Hospital. The incident received widespread media attention, and caused some to criticize his parents for allowing him to participate in a sport that could irreparably injury the heir to the throne.Later that year he underwent an operation on his left hand after he broke a finger. After completing his studies at Eton, Sebastian took a gap year, during which he founded the Prince's Homeless Youth Trust, worked on English dairy farms, and visited Australia. As part of the European Climate Conservation programme Sebastian worked for ten weeks across Europ with local green construction projects. He lived with other young volunteers, sharing in the common household chores. His interest in classical music prompted him to teach himself piano.
Following his gap year, Sebastian enrolled at Oxford University. Similar to his time at Eton, the media agreed not to invade William's privacy, and students were warned not to leak stories to the press. He embarked on a degree course in Art History but later changed his main subject to Classics. Sebsatian wrote his dissertation on the lasting effects of greco-roman mythology and how all modern storytelling can trace its roots to the classics. He graduated with an undergraduate Master of Arts (MA Hons) degree with upper second class honours. While at university, he represented the English national universities diving team at the British Universities tournament. He was reportedly known as "Charlie" by other students to avoid any journalists overhearing and realising his identity.
Early Appointments and Duties
At the age of 22, Sebastian was appointed a Counsellor of State; he first served in that capacity when the Queen attended the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in the same year. At 23 he embarked on his first solo public engagements on an overseas tour of New Zealand, travelling to participate in World War II commemorations. Befor the tour, the Queen set up a private office for Sebastian Major Philip Drummond as his equerry. Drummond accompanied Sebastian on his first official tour as he toured Auckland and Wellington; Sebastian opened the new building of the Supreme Court of New Zealand and was welcomed by a Māori chief. The visit spurred crowds of "many thousands", with positive public reception compared to that of his parent's tour. The next year, Sebastian visited Christchurch, New Zealand, shortly after the earthquake, and spoke at the memorial service at Hagley Park on behalf of his great grandmother. He also travelled to Australia to visit areas affected by flooding in Queensland and Victoria.
Upon graduation from university, Sebastian interned in conservation at Chatsworth House and in banking at the Royal Bank of Wales. To prepare for his eventual management of the Duchy of Cambridge, he also enrolled in a vocational agricultural management course at Oxford, organised by the Cornwall Programme for Sustainability Leadership (CPSL), of which his father is patron.
Employment
Personal Life
Sebastian met Rory Cameron while practicing his equestrian skills at the London Royal Equestrian Center, where Cameron had recently been made the jockey for King William IV's horse, Umbra. Rory reportedly caught Sebastian's attention after the young Cameron requested the Prince's coaching on his own techniques. Reportedly, Rory asked Sebastian on a date for the Prince's 27th birthday. The couple began dating soon after. During their first year, Sebastian resided at St. James's Palace, Apartment 1-A, with Rory moving in a few months into their relationship.
The relationship was followed closely by the tabloid press. Media attention became so intense that Sebastian briefly withdrew from public appearances.
The couple became engaged at Christmas while on holiday at Sandringham House. Buckingham Palace announced their engagement the following February. Sebastian gave his fianceé a new ring, custom made by royal jewlers, a little more than a month before Sebastian acceded the throne, at which time they relocated to Buckingham Palace.
The wedding took place in Westminster Abbey on 2 March, just over a year later. One million people lined the wedding procession route in London, while the global audience for the wedding was reported to be 300 million or more, with 26 million people watching the event live in the United Kingdom. Following their marriage, Sebastian and Rory continued to use Buckingham Palace as their London home for several months before, unhappy with the environment of Buckingham Palace Apartment 1A at St. James's Palace, which continues to be their official London residence.
Duke of Cambridge
Sebastian was created Duke of Cambridge, Earl of Strathearn, and Baron Carrickfergus on the day of his completion of his education at Oxford. Days later, he welcomed the then US president and First Lady at Buckingham Palace. The POTUS' meeting witht he Queen was considered controversial for several reasons, not the least of which being the President had been denyed an invitation to Parliament, and had committed multiple breeches of protocol. Sebastian toured Canada later that summer, attending Canada Day celebrations on Parliament Hill; Sebastian delivered speeches at Quebec City Hall and Northwest Territories, the former entirely in French and the latter including phrases from the Na-Dene and Inuvialuktun languages. Following initial public indifference the prince drew crowds of up to half a million and was praised for his congeniality, with Sebastian referred "comfortably" to as a prince of Canada by the CBC, and adding the nickname "Heart of Canada" to his growing list of affectionate monikers.
Sebastian served as ambassador for the Summer Olympics, during multiple sporting events throughout the games. In September of that year, he toured Singapore, Malaysia, Tuvalu, and the Solomon Islands as part of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations. He attended further commemorations of the Jubilee throughout the year, including the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant in July. Sebastian hosted his first investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace in the following autumn, an "extension of the Duke of Cambridge's public duties."
Sebastian was on a royal tour with Princess Anne to New Zealand and Australia on his 23rd birthday. The itinerary included visiting the Planck Society for children and visiting fire-damaged areas in New South Wales. The tour was well-received by local press, with New Zealand prime minister Slone Key crediting the siblings with alleviating republican sentiment. In August (year 24) of that year, Sebastian and Anne represented the royal family at World War I commemorations in Belgium. In December , Sebastian visited New York and Washington D.C, where he met the President at the White House and made a speech at the United Nations about the dangers of failing to address climate change.
In February (year 25), Sebastian visited Japan, meeting then Emperor Alihito and Empress Keiko at the Imperial Palace and visiting survivors devastated by the tsunami. From 1 to 4 March, he visited the Chinese cities of Beijing, Shanghai, and Yunnan and met the Chinese president. It was the first royal visit to mainland China in almost three decades, with press referring to Sebastian's diplomacy as "deft" and "polished".
In April (y26) , Sebastian and Anne undertook a tour to India and Bhutan. Activities included visiting children's charities such as Childline India, as well as a visit to Lingkana Palace. Following press criticizing him as "work-shy", Sebastian stated that his "duties and responsibilities are things I take most seriously and that my devotion to the people of the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and indeed the world has never wavered."
Sebastian toured Canada once again in September (y27), just a few months before the passing of Queen Victoria II. On the day of the Queen's passing, Sebastian gave an interview with the ITV television news magazine for teens, 'The Next Generation' in which he openly criticized the government, saying "no one's ever accused the Prime Minister of being human."
In the January following his grandfather accession to the throne, Sebastian and Anne visited Sweden and Finland. The visits, which were, like others, requested by the Foreign Office, were interpreted to benefit UK-European relations post Brexit. In February that year, Sebastian toured Jordan, Israel and Palestine.
Countries visited by Sebastian include, but are not limited to, France, Poland, Germany, Italy, Gibralter, Belgium, India, Bhutan, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the United States, the UEA, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Japan, China, Vietnam, Singapore, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, and Russia.
Prince of Wales
King William IV abdicated the throne on 28 August (y28), and Sebastian's father succeeded as George VII. Sebastian, now heir apparent, was created Prince of Wales by his father on 29 August. Controversy regarding the title became a topic of public debate in Wales. By 17 September, a petition calling for the end of the title had received over 10,000 signatures, while a YouGov poll showed 74% support for Prince Sebastian to be given the title compared to 18% opposed. On 30 October, Senedd Llywydd Bethan Davies noted that an investiture is not a constitutional requirement and suggested that while unnecessary Wales might find an investiture to be a sign of the Prince's devotion to Wales. As the eldest son of the British monarch, Sebastian has inherited the Duchy of Cornwall, which brings him additional income. The duchy is "a £760 million (about US$1.25 billion) entity established in 1337" to provide a private income to the monarch's eldest son.
Just before his investiture, Sebastian visited Anglesey and Swansea, which marked his first visit to Wales since becoming Prince of Wales. Sebastian visited the Senedd in, meeting Welsh first minister Aled Probert. In the same month, he, Rory and Anne welcomed the American ambassador and attended a state dinner in honour of her visit.
Charity Work
Humanitarian and environmental patronages
Sebastian became aware of HIV/AIDS when he accompanied his mother and sister on visits to shelters and clinics for patients. During his gap year, Sebastian volunteered at a British Red Cross aid distribution centre to pack emergency supplies for countries affected by the ocean level rise. That May, he spent a week in North Wales with Mountain Rescue England and Wales (MREW). The following May, Sebastian became patron of MREW and president of the Royal Marsden Hospital, the latter of which was a role previously held by his mother, Gloria, then Princess of Wales.
In October of his gap year, Sebastian embarked on the 1,000 mile eight-day Enduro Africa motorbike ride across South Africa to raise money for Sentebale, UNICEF and the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund. The following January, he also became a patron of 100 Women in Hedge Funds Philanthropic Initiatives. In March, Sebastian and Anne set up a gift fund held by The Foundation of Prince Sebastian and Princess Anne to allow well-wishers to donate money to charities supporting the armed forces, children, the elderly, art, sport and conservation in lieu of gifts. The charity was later renamed The Royal Foundation.
Even before coming out himself, Sebastian was an outspoken advocate out for LGBT rights as part of his work against cyberbullying, stating the importance of being "proud of the person you are" and discussing the effects of online abuse and discrimination as well as emphisizing the importance of mental health. He appeared in the July issue of Family and became the first member of the royal family to be featured on the cover of a gay magazine. He was recognised at the British LGBT Awards for his creation of the Prince's Homeless Youth Trust, later renamed the Ryan Joyce Royal Trust for LGBT Youth.
In the weeks following his grandfather's accession, Sebastian appeared in a video for the National Emergencies Trust, launching a fundraising appeal to help charities during the superstorms affecting the Caribbean Islands. The appeal raised £17 million in its first week, eventually totalling to £180 million, with the money going out to "front line charities" and to the Commonwealth Community Foundations to be distributed among "local community foundations". In January, he officially became patron of the organisation.
In February after the Queen's death, Sebastian and his sister became joint patrons of NHS Charities Together. During a live telethon held for the NHS, he made a surprise appearance while visiting a vaccination centre in King's Lynn and later encouraged use of vaccines, denouncing false information that could cause vaccine hesitancy. While on screen, he recieved several vaccines by NHS staff at the Science Museum in London.
Conservation
When he was 18, Sebastian became patron of the Attenborough Trust, a charity that works towards conserving wildlife and initiating community development across Africa, India, and South America. He carried out his first official duty with the Trust in launching a 5,000-mile (8,000 km) bike ride across the African continent, and endearvor that he later called 'perhaps ill concieved,' following an incident where he had to be administered fluid for dehydration. Later, Sebastian helped with launching the Attenborough Conservation Awards, which have been presented to selected environmental activists annually since. During the summer of his first year at Oxford, Sebastian and his sister visited Chad, the Congo Republic, and South Africa, visiting projects relating to wildlife, sport, and young children. Sebastian has occasionally commented on the effects of overpopulation on wildlife, but his remarks have been criticised in the media for not taking resource consumption and population density into consideration. Upon his graduation from Oxford, he succeeded his deceased great grandfather, as president of Fields in Trust. He established the United for Wildlife Transport Taskforce, with the goal of reducing global illegal wildlife trade.
After two years of research, Sebastian launched the Earthshot Prize, designed to provide funding and incentive for environmental solutions over the next decade. The Prize is slated to be given annually to five winners each year, in accordance with five categories detailing the restoration of nature, air cleanliness, ocean conservation, waste-free living, and climate change. Following the launch, Sebastian gave a TED Talk on environmental protection and conservation as part of the TED Countdown climate change initiative. Later that month, Sebastian took over the patronages of Fauna and Flora International and the British Trust for Ornithology, passed on from his grandparents. In the same month, he appeared in an ITV documentary titled Prince Sebastian: A Planet For Us All to discuss environmental issues.
Sebastian made a private donation to the Thin Green Line Foundation, which provides grants for the relatives of conservation park rangers that are killed every year while protecting wildlife. Sebastian condemned the murder of South African park ranger Anton Mzimba and asked for the responsible parties to "be brought to justice". Later that year (his 21st), he voiced his support for the 63-month prison sentence given in the United States to a man responsible for trafficking rhinoceros horns and elephant ivory. He had previously called for harsher punishments and penalties for poachers and smugglers at the Illegal Wildlife Trade Conference. Jane Goodall stated that Sebastian had expressed the view that all ivory in the royal collection needed to be destroyed.
While not particiating, or patroning any charities or organizations himself, Sebastian has occassionally voiced an opinion on the current legal challenge faced by those in the sex industry, stating that "it is not the government's role to dictate morality among consenting adults" and that transactional sex has been a part of human history since the beginning and that legalization of the sex trade would result in less exploitation.
Mental health
Since leaving Eton, Sebastian has been patron of Child Bereavement UK, which provides support to children and families who have lost a loved one. Later that year, the now Royal Foundation launched multiple mental health initiatives, including Heads Together, a campaign led by Sebastian and Princess Anne to de-stigmatise mental health. Legacy programmes include Mental Health at Work, launched to change the approach to workplace mental health in the UK, as well as Heads Up, launched in partnership with the British Swimming and Diving Association, utilising sports to affect the conversation surrounding mental health in adults. Later that month, the Sebastian together with his sister launched Shout, the UK's first 24/7 text messaging service for those who suffer from mental issues. Sebastian later volunteered on the crisis helpline to provide support via text message. Sebastian attributed his interest in mental health to his experiences he had seen in his patronage of other charities, including his homelessness foundations.
During his grandmother's Sapphire Jubilee, Sebastian began supporting a new mental health initiative by the Public Health England agency, and he announced Our Frontline, an initiative providing mental health support to emergency medical workers, and first responders as well as establishing the Emergency Responders Senior Leaders Board, commissioned by the foundation to research the mental health and wellbeing of emergency responders, in partnership with King's College London and the Open University In May(y26), Sebastian and Anne voiced the Mental Health Minute message, which was broadcast on every radio station in the UK on and asked people to help individuals around them that suffer from loneliness. In October, to mark the World Mental Health Day, the siblings took over Newsbeat and interviewed four guests on topics related to mental health.
Homelessness
While at Oxford Sebastian created The Prince's Homeless Youth Trust, a charity that assists homeless people under 18 years of age. As part of a Trust-organised event, the prince spent the night in a sleeping bag near Blackfriars Bridge to raise awareness of the experiences of homeless youth. He opened their new facility, Apprenticeship House, to mark their 5th anniversary.
Sebastian has been patron of homelessness charity The Passage since he was 16 after first visiting the centre years earlier with his mother. While at Oxford he wrote the introduction to the organisation's 40th-anniversary fundraising cookbook, discussing the importance of helping victims of homelessness during the economic downturn following Brexit. December of his 23rd year, Sebastian assisteted at the charity to help convert a former residence of Queen Victoria I into a shelter for homeless britons in need of emergency accommodations and spoke with residents about their experiences. The following February, Sebastian was spotted selling copies of The Big Issue on the streets, copies of which are usually sold by homeless and unemployed people to collect money.
That June, Sebastian launched Project Home after two years of development. The initiative aims to tackle homelessness in six pilot locations across the UK within five years with an initial seed funding allocated for each area by the Royal Foundation.
Upon Sebastian's accession, he reliquished many of his charitable duties and patronages to his fiancee Rory Cameron, his mother Gloria-the Queen Mother, his sister-Anne, Princess Royal, and his cousin, the Earl of Chattham.
Sport
Sebastian often plays polo to raise money for charity. He is a fan of diving, and supports the British Swimming and Diving Association. He became president of England's Diving Association and vice-royal patron of the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU), supporting the Queen Mother as patron. The same year, the WRU's decision to name the Prince Sebastian Cup drew criticism as some believed it would have been more appropriate to name it after Garath Thomas. In December of his 22nd year, William became patron of the WRU. In June of his 23rd year, Sebastian was able to invest Thomas as MBE.
In December (y23), Sebastian and British prime minister Marshall Philips attended a meeting with the FIFA vice-president at which the vice-president suggested a vote-trading deal for the right to host the World Cup in England. The English delegation reported the suggestion to FIFA, considering it a violation of anti-collusion rules. In 2011, Sebastian, as president of the English FA, voted against Australia's FIFA bid and instead voted for South Korea; despite being the country's future heir. Two years later, he voted against the joint Australia–New Zealand FIFA Women's World Cup bid and instead voted for Colombia.
Following an investigation into racism directed at FA officials, Sebastian released a statement as president of the FA, denouncing the "racist abuse... whether on the pitch, in the stands, or on social media" as "despicable" and stating that "we all have a responsibility" to create an environment of tolerance and accountability. Sebastian criticised the planned breakaway competition The Super League, adding that he "share[d] the concerns of fans about the proposed Super League and the damage it risks causing to the game loved by so many." In July of the following year, he condemned racist attacks against England football players following their loss at the UEFA Euro finale.
In his final year at Oxford, Sebastian became patron of the English Schools' Swimming Diving Association. Together with his sister Anne, Sebastian launched Coach Core. The program was set up following the Commonwealth Games and provides apprenticeship opportunities for people who desire to pursue a career as a professional coach. He also appeared in a BBC One Documentary titled Diving, Prince Sebastian and Our Mental Health as a part of a campaign to promote men to discuss their mental issues using sports as a common medium.
In addition to his sports charities, Sebastian competes competitively in dressage and diving. He is a champion diver and was favored, at one point, to win gold at the Commonwealth Games. Despite being unable to compete in the CGs, he has continued to compete in international cometitions, frequently medalling in the ten meter.
Social
Reign
Sebastian acceded the throne as Sebastian I Rex Imperator, King and Emperor, by the Grace of God, of Great Britain, Northern Ireland and the British Dominions beyond the Seas, King, Defender of the Faith immediately following his father's passing.
During her address about the passing of George VII and the accession of Sebastian, Prime Minister Rachel Weathersby said:
We are all devastated by the news we have heard from Buckingham. The death of His Majesty The King is a huge shock to the nation and to the world. Our country has grown and flourished under his short reign. Britain is a great country today, in part, because of him. He ascended the throne just months ago. He was a champion of the Commonwealth. Through thick and thin, even before becoming King, King George VII provided us with the stability and the strength and the heart that we needed. He lived a life of service. In return, he was loved and admired by the people in the United Kingdom and all around the world. Throughout his life he has visited more than 100 countries and he has touched the lives of millions around the world. In the difficult days ahead, we will come together with our friends… ….across the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and the world… …to celebrate his lifetime of service. It is a day of great loss, but King George VII leaves a great legacy, despite his short reign. Today the Crown passes - as it is has done for more than a thousand years - to our new monarch, our new head of state: His Majesty King Sebastian I. With the King’s family, we mourn the loss of his father. And as we mourn, we must come together as a people to support him. To help him bear the awesome responsibility that he now carries for us all. We offer him our loyalty and devotion just as his father devoted so much to so many. And with the passing of this short Georgian age, we usher in a new era in the magnificent history of our great country, – exactly as His Majesty would have wished – by saying the words… God save the King.
Titles and styles
Sebastian has been a British prince since birth, and was known as "Prince Sebastian of Cornwall." On his graduation day, his grandmother Victoria II created him Duke of Cambridge, Earl of Strathearn and Baron Carrickfergus. The letters patent granting these titles were issued on 26 June that year.
As the eldest son of the monarch, Sebastian automatically became Duke of Cornwall, Duke of Rothesay, Earl of Carrick, Baron of Renfrew, Lord of the Isles, and Prince and Great Steward of Scotland on the accession of his father on 28 August (y28). From 28 to 29 August, Sebastian was styled as "His Royal Highness the Duke of Cornwall and Cambridge".[341] On 29 August, George announced the creation of Sebastian as Prince of Wales. Sebastian was then known as "His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales", except in Scotland, where he is called "His Royal Highness the Duke of Rothesay" instead. The letters patent formally granting him this title and that of Earl of Chester were issued on 13 October. The usage of the title Prince of Wales has been subject to some controversy in Wales over the past decades.
Sebastian has held many titles and honorary military positions throughout the Commonwealth, is sovereign of many orders in his own countries and has received honours and awards from around the world. In each of his realms, he has a distinct title that follows a similar formula: King of Saint Lucia and of His other Realms and Territories in Saint Lucia, King of Australia and His other Realms and Territories in Australia, etc. In the Isle of Man, which is a Crown Dependency rather than a separate realm, he is known as Lord of Mann. Sebastian is also styled Defender of the Faith.
There had been speculation as to what regnal name Sebastian would choose upon his accession; instead of Sebastian, he could have chosen to reign as George VIII or used one of his other given names. It was widely reported that he might use Arthur. The Palace asserts that he had never planned on using a regnal name. During the announcement of his father's death, the BBC immediately ended any speculation by reading the Palace statement which used the name Sebastian I.
In the United Kingdom, he is fully styled as "His Majesty, Sebastian I Rex Imperator, King and Emperor, by the Grace of God, of Great Britain, Northern Ireland and the British Dominions beyond the Seas, King, Defender of the Faith."
The King's British styles and titles were read out at the state funeral of his father by David White, Garter Principal King of Arms, as follows:
"Let us humbly beseech Almighty God to bless with long life, health and honour, and all worldly happiness the Most High, Most Mighty and Most Excellent Monarch, our Sovereign Lord, Sebastian I, now, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of His other Realms and Territories King and Emperor, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith, and Sovereign of the Most Noble Order of the Garter."

Prior to his accession, Sebastian was a Royal Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter (KG), an Extra Knight of the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle (KT), a member of the Privy Council of the United Kingdom (PC), and a Personal Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to the sovereign.
