Sebastian and Alexander Fielding's Friendship Ends

Alexander Fielding describes Sebastian as his boyfriend. Sebastian pushes back saying they cannot be boyfriends - meaning he cannot have a relationship with a man, given his status as Prince. Alexander leaves. The two's friendship is terminated.

Diary Entry   16 August Sunday   The happy life I've lived in at Eton has collapsed. Milton and René made it for my diving fixture yesterday. I did very well by the by. Following the fixutre, the four of us - myself, Milton, René, and Alexander - went out to celebrate. Every one, myself included, was talking about pride in my perseverance.   That's when Alexander patted my knee under the table and said "It never ceases to amaze me how strong Bash is. It makes me proud to be his boyfriend."   Boyfriend?   I told him he was exagerating, and he took me to mean he was talking about my strength. I had to correct him. Watching Alexander's face as I told him how close we were but we'd never be boyfriends made me hate myself.   Alexander did nto let me explain why; he stood up and left. I started weeping.   René stayed with me to keep an eye on me. I don't think I needed him to but I appreciated it none-the-less.
