The Ferryman Haventhal
While most believe the character to be a man of humanoid descent, Haventhal, ever since ancient times, has always been a powerful and dark black dragon. The strength of this being does not come from souls or other dark powers as the name might suggest, but from the worship of the peaceful passing. A ferrymen in every sense of the word to bring those who have passed upon to their rightful destination.
A long and storied history like much of the draconic deities, his own tale is one of mystery and intrigue and what he might once have been in the long past. Such mystery would warrant investigation to those curious. But in the most recent of times, his new quarry in the realm of death has spurned a rather zealous group of followers.
Ferry souls, foul or blessed, to their proper realms and the grace beyond.
Scouring the world for dark places with souls left from calamities and freeing them from suffering.
Preventing the perversion of souls and the process of death.
"Blessed be the souls left by those who we have lost,"
"For their strength becometh ours in time past,"
"Though our name be the Hunters of Death,"
"Those resting give us our divine breath,"
"And those defiling show us our path,"
"For we are the will of the dead,"
"And the saviors for all."
From the Tempastery of Skulls, A divine oath for new Death Hunters
Physical Description

Mental characteristics
In the early years of the dragons, the realm of death was seen as a taboo. Followers of death were volatile and corruptible, seeking power through the bones of their fallen kin, and perversion of the transference of the faith of souls. At the paramount, lie this figure, as a vile and destructive menace. Abiding in a cave for hundreds of years seething and writhing from his imprisonment by his sisters and brothers, as told in the Tales of Artorius and the Red Blade, his wrath showed in the preceding battles in the coming years. Nearly struck down, but shown a mercy, he lives now to atone for his sins of the past, and to show those who mercy was not given that very thing.
