Technofantasy (Placeholder Name)

A world that combines a few of my favorite elements (fantasy, science fiction, and cyberpunk). Earth is still the home of humans, but we have taken to the stars. While on another planet, explorers found ruins of a mystical alien race of technologically advanced animal people. The explorers brought back some of these samples, and from this ancient civilization, humanity's tech began to develop exponentially. Implants with animal traits became the new norm, introducing a new brand of human, and along with these implants came magic. This new implant fever saw the growth of two religious sects: the Purists and the Evolutionists. The Purists believe that magic should be granted by God, and not man-made. They view implants as aberrations and those who modify themselves as heretics. The Evolutionists believe that the implants are from God, and if God wanted them to remain human, he wouldn't have let the aliens be found. Because of this belief, they are trying to find ways to increase the power of magic by implanting humans earlier and earlier. However, a third party has just arrived. Due to centuries of biological engineering and implants, along with the inherent magic that is embedded in the dna of the ancient aliens, there are now children being born with the very traits humans have been artificially giving themselves. Along with these traits comes a strong grasp of magic, far stronger than ever seen before.
