Chimera

Basic Information

Anatomy

Chimera are the most variable in appearance out of the demon races, frequently appearing almost as if built by some mad child out of the bits and pieces of other creatures, both demonic and mundane in nature. Beyond these variable traits, however, Chimera all have a number of traits in common that allow them to be identified fairly easily regardless of their precise appearance. Chimera are tall. Obscenely so. Frequently they are no shorter than two meters, and so lanky that their bodies seem to defy the laws of physics in remaining upright. And in addition to two arms and two legs (and frequently a tail), Chimera will have two additional limbs protruding from the region of their shoulder blades. These limbs have historically been all manner of things - wings, tendrils, additional arms, scythe-like claws - but there has never been a Chimeran in modern memory without something in that region.

Biological Traits

Chimera are very nearly impossible to kill without putting forth obscene amounts of effort to do so or knowing exactly which points to strike. Their 'Inner Self' (see Demons) is practically an entire body unto itself, allowing individual body parts to remain functional even when separated from the main mass. Additionally, while all demons are exceptionally hardy and regenerate lost tissue at a rapid rate, Chimera do so at nearly twice the speed of other demons, with certain individuals healing even faster than that.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

The demon language is the closest in the setting to something wholly unique, but what that currently means is that most individual demons’ names and things named by them are tentative and prone to change. The only significant exception at the moment is the suffix “-a’at”, which is used as a shorthand for ‘of the demons’. Seen in places like the names of their world and city (Doma’at and Urba’at), as well as their two major gods, it’s reserved for only the most significant and universal aspects of demon-kind.

Beyond that, with many demons dipping into and out of the mortal world, they’ve brought many things back with them as novelties, foreign languages among them. For demons born in the mortal world, or to parents who are fascinated by it, their names are likely to mimic the formating and languages of the races that most caught the parents’ eyes.

Historical Figures

Ignatius Walowik - Son of a Cubare Yu'urn member and the now-Empress of Duwallen, Ignatius was born into the lap of luxury and instantly made himself right at home, becoming a pompous, spoiled brat and reveling in every moment of it. After a harebrained assassination attempt tore him from his palatial home and deposited him into the center of the Sur'Dhanzan wastes, he quickly learned that life was not always so easy as it had been made for him, but somehow this did little to dampen his egotistical streak. Over the years, he's become a proficient killer and now serves as the self-proclaimed sheriff of quite a large chunk of the Sur'Dhanzan desert, centered around the small town of Serkin.
