The Maw

The Maw is a hole that descends deep into the Underdark. Its nearly one mile across entrance is located in Olc Skerry. Below the surface, its shape varies, widening several times further at points while narrowing to only a few hundred yards across at others.
Ascending from deep within The Maw presents difficulties, assumed to occur as the result of magic. Illness is the least severe of these; in the worst cases, the consequences of ascent can cause death or even worse fates.
At about three to four thousand yards down, The Maw narrows to a few hundred yards wide for nearly 4000 yards straight down.
At about ten thousand yards down, there's a forest of odd trees that blocks sunlight from reaching any further.
No one has ever returned alive and sane from past about fifteen thousand yards down.
