Veriax

Veriax, the Ninth Imperial God, was a later addition to the pantheon. Originally one of the first Imperial Archmages, Veriax disappeared around the same time his colleagues began to die of old age, retreating into a hidden laboratory and becoming Teldaris's first Lich. After spending several more decades in hiding growing his power, Veriax ascended to godhood through unknown means. He then revealed himself to the world and declared himself the Ninth Imperial God, becoming the God of Magic, Knowledge and Undeath. Being the only known incarnate god in the world at that time, he exercised incredible power, raising armies of the undead to supplement the Empire's own flagging forces.   Veriax was worshiped by wizards and scholars of all stripes, particularly by all those who sought to understand the universe for their own benefit. His worshipers often clashed with the followers of other gods, since they frequently delved into areas of forbidden knowledge and published works considered heresy, which were often purged. However, due to the usefulness of these people to the advancement of the Empire, they were often tolerated.   Veriax disappeared at the same time as the magic vanished and the Empire fell, and he was blamed for these events by many in the Empire, leading to his name being forgotten and his worship forbidden. It continued regardless, as the Cult of the Lost God formed and began to work towards the return of their god and, along with him, the magic they had once wielded.
