Ashur Sunstrider

Seeker-Knight Ashur Sunstrider

" 'I will be a champion, ever vigilant. I will be watching from the high walls. I will not let evil grow in the shadows, I will reveal them and strike them down before they grow to threaten this world. Such is my oath, to stand by the tenants of the Watcher' " -Oath of the Seekers, spoken by Ashur Sunstrider upon his initiation into the order.   Ashur Sunstrider is the younger brother of Akata Sunstrider and one of the few people she truly cares for, due to their close friendship during childhood. Ashur is also a Paladin in service to the Watcher, dedicated to finding and defeating evil.

Personal history

Born into the tense house Sunstrider following the birth of his Sister, Ashur was quite wild in his youth, flying right in the face of his family. His greatest offense was breaking into his sister's room on numerous occasions, committing the 'crime' of actually being friends with his beloved sister, whom he promised to one day free so they could see the many places she read about in her books.   However, at age 9 Ashur was sent away to the Academy of Dawn's Champion in the city of Lucis before he ever had the chance. Finding himself in the far from home in a strictly religious military school, the young boy bucked the system any way he could. Going so far as to try running away from his 'captors' at age 13. However, disaster struck the attempt when brigands in the city captured him. If it weren't for Caedris Dulcairne, a Seeker-Knight in service to the Watcher, who knows what might have happened to him.   Becoming enamored with his savior Ashur begged the knight to allow him to be his squire, a request Dulcairne quickly refused. Yet Ashur wasn't deterred in the slightest, despite being returned to the Academy.   Ashur quickly dedicated himself to learning of the Watcher, and his ways. Finding that he agreed with the god's morals, and feeling a call to serve him. Ashur even went so far as to make a makeshift altar to the god out of his trunk, after which he swore himself to the god's service.   While they were disappointed the young man had chosen a different path than the one they had chosen for him, his teachers at the temple were delighted to see the young man take interest in anything else other than swordplay and causing mischief. The headmaster of the boy's school sent his family in Sommergard 3 letters, the first two received no reply, but the third did. Talin Sunstrider had given begrudging permission for the headmaster to send Ashur to the Watcher's Temple in Lucis.   There, Ashur excelled, and in two years time, he once again asked Caedris Dulcairne to squire him, a request the knight granted, promising that it would be harder than anything he had done before.   It was, but Ashur couldn't be happier.   By the age of 19, Ashur had made the Oath, and was granted the title of Seeker-Knight. Since then, he has traveled the land, battling evil wherever he might find it.
