Eren Tolkus
Eren Tolkus (a.k.a. The Errant Hero)
The were no dragons to slay, nor damsels to save.
There was no family to avenge nor a prophecy to fulfill.
There was only a boy, who wanted to see the world.
Eren Tolkus, more commonly known as the Errant Hero, was born to a tiny village on the edge of civilization. His early life was that of a farmhand, but he abandoned that life around age 16, leaving home without a word to pursue a life of adventure.
Can you imagine it? With no training and no weapon, a young boy enters the dangerous world with wonder and excitement in his eyes? Usually, the result would be a quick and untimely demise, yet in the case of Eren Tolkus, he managed to somehow survive the nearly fatal stumbles of his early adventuring career.
Perhaps The Errant was looking out for him?
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Small in stature. Slim but surprisingly well built, although you wouldn't be able to tell when his is wearing armor.
Body Features
Deeply tanned skin common for a Southlander who's always on the road. Shoulder length wavy black hair, that is often a mess. Uncommon pale blue eyes.
Facial Features
A round, jovial face. Slight stubble, supposedly unable to grow an actual beard. Slight laugh lines, but no other wrinkles just yet. A good sign
Special abilities
Minor magic spells picked up on his travels. Mostly utility, but he has used magic to save himself in battle before.
Apparel & Accessories
A ragged travel cloak is his iconic attire, though the specific cloak changes by season. His choice of clothing typically favors utility and practicality over anything, but he wears out clothing at such an alarming rate he tends to make do with what he can get.
Specialized Equipment
A slightly magical longsword dubbed Wanderwind, forged for use with two hands or one. Bearing a key-like flare on the guards and a ring pommel that has the tang exposed in the middle. A design more common in the isles west of the Northlands, but apparently given to him by a smith in the Southlands.
A mithral breastplate and pauldrons, complemented with battered leather armor.
A short bow decorated with Ostrich feathers.
A pouch of spell components.
Ornate magic bracers, marked with the Emperor of Dytholi's sigil, given as a gift for services rendered.
And a magic bag containing the following:
A torch of everlasting light, a flask of alchemic fire, a flask of acid, holy water, a smoke bomb, caltrops, a blaststone, chalk, a crowbar, flint and steel, a grappling hook, a climber's kit, an 'adventurer's entry toolkit' (Thieves tools), an hourglass, a handmade holy symbol for the Errant, 50ft of hemp rope, 50 feet of silk elven rope, a magnet, ten iron spikes, a tent, a bedroll, a spare blanket, a rubber ball, a 'listening cone', and a collapsing 10-foot pole.
Mental characteristics
Sexuality
Straight
Education
Almost completely self-taught. He apparently learned to read mostly on his own, with some help from traveling companions along the way. Conversing with him has led me to believe that he is much more intelligent than he lets on.
Employment
Farmhand during early life.
Adventurer since then, and very happy with the career despite barely ever having any coin.
Intellectual Characteristics
Flighty, impulsive, witty, carefree, fantastic problem-solving, observant when needed to be.
Morality & Philosophy
Many are the tale of the Errant Hero jumping to the aid of another without hesitation, not a worry at all for his own safety. Believe me, when I say, Eren Tolkus never intended to acquire such a reputation. His only care in the world is to see the world and satiate his insatiable wanderlust. Were he to hear about some calamity in another place far away, he would feel sad, but not be compelled to any sort of action.
Yet to see someone else in danger before him, is another thing entirely.
In such a case, according to him, he simply cannot help but act. The threat doesn't matter, his feet move on his own and he joins the fray. I doubt even a dragon would scare him into inaction if a innocent were in danger right before his eyes.
Come to think of it though, he would actually probably try and talk to the dragon.
Taboos
A young man with a healthy moral code, who respects the common taboos of the civilized world.
He will admit to stealing on occasion if his need is dire, but usually he will try and compensate his 'victim' later.
Personality Characteristics
Savvies & Ineptitudes
Lucky, optimistic, adventurous, kind-hearted, selfless and open-minded.
Yet he is also unambitious, impulsive, easily bored, and sometimes just lazy.
Likes & Dislikes
Love travel, loves hearing stories of great heroes, but dislikes it when people try and document his own story. Not fond of steamed spinach, it's the texture.
Social
Religious Views
Devoted wholehearted to the Errant and it isn't all that hard to understand why.
Social Aptitude
Comfortable around people, friendly and outgoing, but uncomfortable in a leadership role. Usually casual, but perhaps overly formal with influential people.
Wealth & Financial state
Almost none to speak of. He usually has a little bit saved away in various banks, but most of his wealth is in the magic items on his back.
