Sommergard
A beautiful, shinning city, often considered the crown jewel of the Southlands. A holy city for followers of Solus, Sommergard was founded by followers of Bellonira Sunstrider when she chose to retire nearby. It is also supposedly the mythic hero's final resting place, although her tomb's whereabouts have been lost to time, somewhere in the labyrinthian catacombs beneath the city.
Government
The Golden City is lead by a council of 5 individuals. Thre are elected democratically, one from the noble houses, and one from the middle class, and one from the commercial guilds. The fourth is the leader of Sommergard's military, who also oversees the militia and law enforcement. The fifth is the High Priest of the Temple of Solus. While technically this priest has no more power than any other, most people see them as the council leader, and other council leaders often defer to the High Priest's judgement.
Defences
Sommergard boasts a strong wall blessed by local priests daily. Many watchtowers dot the city, but the real defensive strength of Sommergard is its strict 'no evil' policy. Everyone entering the city is subjected to a spell that detects those with evil in their hearts, and most guard patrols are accompanied by a paladin who does the same in regular intervals making it very hard for evil individuals to infiltrate the city.
The only real defensive weakness is the catacombs that run under the whole city, which have many entrances and exits outside the city. However, the catacombs are unmapped and extremely dangerous making them a dubious entryway at best.
Industry & Trade
Sommergard is renowned for producing powerful equipment blessed by Tellaeron's good aligned deities. It is also renowned for jewelers skilled with gold, white gold, platinum and brass.
Infrastructure
Sommergard's infrastructure is often envied by other cities in the Southlands. Canals and Aqueducts carry water throughout the city, and a comprehensive sewer system carries waste away. The streets are fully paved in most places with smooth tiles quarried in the nearby mountains.
Sculptures and statues of great heroes dot the city, yet there is also a healthy respect for nature.
Guilds and Factions
Various commercial guilds, as well as many temples, the temples of The Valiant, @Octaeus, the Judicator, and Solus being the most prominent.
The city also holds the headquarters of the Knights of the Valiant Heart, the Sunscorched Knights, the @Knights of Belon, and the Angelic Disciples
The Wayfinder's Guild also has a prominent place in the city.
