Iron Barons
The Iron Barons are a loose collective of wealthy families and entrepreneurs who, by their merit or by their birth, now control much of the national business interests of the Iron Dominion. Though the Iron Barons operate throughout the Dominion, many have shifted their attention to the frontier territories of the Dominion, primarily Chapel Valley. These barons have been granted great executive and economic power to shape the future of the territory, leaving many of the Valley's settlers worried about their growing power and influence.
Below is a brief description of each of the Iron Barons, their business interest, and their areas of influence in Chapel Valley:
Race: Human
Business: Stevenson Railway Company
Area of influence: Northeast Valley, Stevenson Line
The Stevenson Family, headed by Dave and Roberta Stevenson, are relative newcomers among the Iron Barons. Following the disaster of the Blackreach and the subsequent failure of the Birmingham Family to ensure the protection of their railways, the Stevenson Family was granted a commission to develop the Stevenson Line railway along the Eastern edge of the Valley, with the goal of eventually creating a continuous train line from Beacon to Far Harbor.
Race: Mostly human, some elvish ancestry
Business: Birmingham Transport
Area of Influence: Western Valley, Birmingham Line
The Birmingham Family, headed by Brandon Birmingham, is one of the oldest families in the Iron Dominion. The Birmingham family were originally shipwrights in the colonies who supported the Iron Rebellion , earning the good grace of Gregor Ferrous. Since the founding of the Dominion, the Birmingham Family founded their own transport, shipping, and railway company known as "Birmingham Transport".
The Birminghams lost some favor with the Dominion following the destruction of the Blackreach, one of the first trains to service Chapel Valley. Their failure to ensure the safety of their train, as well as their slow progress in rebuilding and finishing the Birmingham Line, lead the Artisan's Assembly to grant the commission for the eastern railway to the Stevenson Family instead.
