Scraps of Empire: Primer

Overview

Your party has been hired by Lady Iben dan Giomo to break into the home of Raffi dan Scalzo, one of the more powerful Merchant Lords of the porty city of Vecos in Leostria. Your task is to retrieve an artifact of great value plundered from the New World by Leostrian explorers. According to Lady Giomo, this artifact was intended for her, but through some trickery and deception, was intercepted and stolen by dan Scalzo. Your mission is to retrieve the relic and bring it to Lady Giomo without being caught, and without dan Scalzo learning who you work for. 

Leostria & Vecos

You can imagine Leostria as being similar to European Mediterranean states during the Renaissance and the Enlightenment; hopes are high, art and innovation drive progress, and adventure waits beyond the horizon. 

The port city of Vecos is one of the largest shipbuilding and trade ports in all of the Idraz Continent. In the past, it operated as an independent city-state, but it is now under the influence and control of the Vaylorian Sovereignty. Tales of adventure fill every tavern, hundreds of ships enter and leave port every day carrying treasures from beyond the Whispering Deep, and the Merchant Lords fill their coffers with coin.  

During this particular adventure, Vecos is in the middle of its Festival of the Faceless, a week-long celebration in which people are encouraged to engage in revelry and celebration while wearing decorative masks. The anonymity provided by the masks allows everyone in the city, from the wealthiest merchants to the poorest peasants, to intermingle and enjoy themselves. 

Character Parameters

For this adventure, you can create 6th-level characters using any materials from WOTC, or any materials found here on World Anvil. 

Equipment 

This adventure will take place at a time when gunpowder weaponry - muskets, flintlocks, cannons, etc. - exist, so let me know if you would like your character to have training in the use of these weapons. 

Each of you - with vetting of course - can also choose a magic item for your character to use. You can choose to get either one rare magic item or two common or uncommon magic items.
