Exposition

Ash attended Urafa's funeral and learned the rumors about the body being found near Thyreth. He decided to investigate with his new friends from the Dead Company.

As they approached the village, Ash and his companions could see the unnatural beauty of the village. The villagers were all healthy and strong, their crops were bountiful and the animals were strong and healthy. But as they delved deeper into the village, they could see the true cost of this beauty. The surrounding forests were barren, the rivers were dry and the animals were weak and sickly.

Conflict

A young Fhokki girl, Gytha, approaches them and asks them, "What's your name ?". If someone replies Ash, she firmly tends that person a folded paper and runs away while crying. Urafa used he skills with Origami to fold the paper so only Ash can open it or someone very dexterous. Opening the folder paper without tearing it requires a Dex (Craft) check difficulty 15. Failing, makes the paper shred with only 3 words still legible: Transfer, Artifact, help. Suceeding, allows the person who opened it to read this.

Ash, I hope you are well, I need your help. This village has been taken over by an evil artifact, please help me get rid of it. It transfers the life from around into the residents, it's killing the land and they can't see it. Your friend, Urafa.

When Urafa pleaded to the villagers to stop using the evil artifact, they captured her and ended up killing her. They then tried to get rid of the body in the Jendasha River but it got stuck on a branch downstream and a elven solider found her and brought her back to Shyta-Thybaj. Before dying, the Gnome gave a small scrape of paper to a young girl of the village. It had one word on it: Ash.
