An old family; 'Blue Blooded', one could say.
Culture
One of steadfast loyalty...to the land and its people. The family is known to stand up for peasants and lower class citizens, and therefore is surrounded with the most loyal and hard working staff and loving family maybe in the world.
Public Agenda
To aid and protect the 'working people'
Assets
Tons of silver and gold stored in hidden vaults all over Pax; numerous palaces, keeps, manors and rural getaways; vast acreages of vineyards, wheat, barley, oats and spelt; fourteen villages, wherein the people who work the farms live. They are the landlords, and are known to do such things as suspend rent collection during droughts, pay for particularly hard workers (or their children's) education, ensure "comfort and health of new mothers" with midwife care paid for by the family, and many more perks...they truly love the people, and assign their wealth and position directly upon the masses. Still, these villages and farms earn the family wealth beyond and real type of measure.
History
Oh, long and storied, is the history of the Grey family. They, and their struggles with Cotnor, are the stuff of legend.
Demography and Population
The birth rate in Greynor almost always outpaces that of the death rate, unless a natural disaster or other act of the gods tears apart civilization. The family is old enough to have weathered many such incidents.
Foreign Relations
They are indeed known as the Grey Merchants, and (despite their detractors' pointed criticisms and predictions) the The High Kingdom has always flourished while their family was in power. People like them.
Except for "those bastards up in Cotnor"; there has been a family feud for generations between the Kingdom of Cotnor and Greynor, and indeed, the entire The High Kingdom is often roiled from within when King Pladimus Cotnor gets a hair across his arse.
Mythology & Lore
They are historically adherents to Oghma, although the family has grown and branched so much that they now recognize many gods in their temples.
Divine Origins
A family of sea gypsies, fleeing the piracy of the southern seas around Taisha
