Leah Hart Gnelson
A pretty girl, Leah was regarded as a shy and retiring wallflower for most of her tenure as the Wife of the Hetman.
Right up until the day she died, that is. For, on that day, she bested a wild boar in hand to hand combat with a broken spear and her hands and feet. And teeth. And while she received her death wound from the beast, she single handedly saved her toddler grandson, Gundrun Carls, from the creature.
When the search teams finally found them, the four year old Gundrun had nearly finished digging a grave to lay her in with great honor, along with her fallen foe. Those who found the lad and his dead grandmother did not take much time to look at the fallen beast, as they (to a man) wept for Gundrun's lost childhood innocence. The leader of the searching hunt team, a fierce woman named Grotmä, felt badly for the (always) emotional men and the poor bereaved child, and let them weep and moan as they finished digging a shallow grave for the fallen Queen. The women of the group, as was tradition, established a defensive perimeter and collected river stones for the cairn the men would build atop their fallen queen. Only when the labor and ceremony were over did they turn to the fallen beast.
It turned out to be a dire boar; the queen had soloed a dire boar.
The experienced band of hunters fell silent. They had seen many a compatriot felled by such a creature. They were not only fierce and aggressive, but raged like a northern barbarian and seemed to feel no pain. One needed to mechanically break the anatomy of a dire boar; simple pain did nothing to deter them. They generally sent a full hunt team of twenty to rid an area of an encroaching dire boar.
The woodsfolk doffed their feathered caps respectfully, nodding their heads in silent prayer, just as a single woodraven called out a loud note of mourning. The surrounding trees erupted in song as an exultation of skylarks paid homage to the fallen queen.
