Tödvolgan

The years of the Weeping Phage were rough on everybody. Indeed, it affected the world economy in various ways, both subtle and covert, and some enterprising souls, of course, tried to profit from it.

Enter the self-described 'Corpsewardens', who would brave the epidemic to come to your home and dispose of your loved ones' pestilent bodies, for a mere twenty-five silver bits. For an additional fee, a team of experts would come out to the home and clean it, sanitizing it with sulfer dioxide. The process was efficient, quick, and the business model was sound.

The 'Phage, however, did not care a whit about whether or not the business model was effective. Too few of the Corpsewardens had heard of The Bartholomew Protocol; and fewer still believed a word of it. Too few of the Corpsewardens could even read. And so, before two years was up, the industry had faded almost entirely, leaving in its wake the Tödvolgan; a wagon specialized in hauling bodies. Caskets, to be more precise; each contrivance could respectfully carry up to two dozen dead people, in sealed caskets that were meant to protect the population at large.

Propulsion

These wagons were hauled through the streets by teams of oxen, so very often the Corpsewardens needed to carry caskets over rough terrain.

Communication Tools & Systems

There was a bell mounted on the front of the wagon, rung at intervals in a distinct pattern to let people know they were in the area.

Additional & auxiliary systems

Each "Bouncing Betty" (named for the macabre dance the caskets do while swaying around on the tall wagon) was equipped with a "rack-and-roller" system that would grasp and retrieve each casket, storing it on a tall rack mounted in the back of the wagon.
