The Thri-kreen queen Klach'reen crash lands on Luna with her people, and as luck would have it, almosty immediately discovers a passage to the interior.

According to Thri-kreen tradition, when a new queen is born to the hive it either expands, or the old queen dies to make way for the new.

When the hive expands, about half of the population splits off and moves to a new location, under the guidance of the new queen, who is still beholden to the old queen. In most Thri-kreen societies, this involves leaving the planet that they have colonized and subsequently devoured.

 

Klach'reen believed until the day she died that her ship's fate was a result of sabotage.
