The Myth of the Last
Inspired by Brast, the Soulweaver and his attempts over the centuries to regain his Human form, the myth of the Last speaks of a wandering entity which can kill with merely a touch, the true incarnation of death.
The myth is dismissed by the majority of the Mortal Species, but there are cults that spread the tale, and many names have been given to this death spirit. It is known as the Last Touch, the Last Breath, or very simply, just the Last. They believe that this entity is the ultimate terminus of life, and is the source of all death that happens. In their myths, the Last was created when the precursor humans of paradise overstepped their mortality. The Last was brought about by nature itself as a balancing force to bring an end to the Time of Paradise, and became the ultimate judge of when a mortal's life had reached its end.
Of course, the myth of the Last is not true, as Brast himself was a human born well after the Time of Paradise and Time of Strife. The Time of Paradise was ended by The Great Flare, and Brast was born long after paradise had collapsed on its own.
However, Brast has been known to utilize this belief to force cults to operate in a manner suiting his needs, which only strengthens the belief in the Last.
The myth of the Last has by itself been a source of great suffering, as the Last Cults act on the belief that if they were wrong to do as they wished, they would be served their deaths by their judge. They use this as justification for any actions they perform, and often perform blood sacrifices to placate the death spirit. In their belief, this also acts as substitute for their own natural deaths. In fact, many cult leaders that are close to death for whatever reason often hold mass sacrifices in order to plead with the Last for their life, despite being willing to accept their death as nature wills.
