Crestfall

Crestfall is the name of a large continent within the Western hemisphere of Teranuz. It's name is derived from the Elven word cresdvol ("Earthen Throne") in reference to the abundance in natural resources the elves discovered upon first arriving from the Feywild. Irreparably marred by war and strife, much of Crestfall is no longer the fertile land it once was; despite this, it remains home to diverse cast of sentient races that make up its many nations.

History

Main article: Timeline of Teranuz   In some point in its prehistory, the landmass that would eventually be known as Crestfall was the seat of power for a vast civilization of giants. What caused this civilization to fall into decline is unknown; all that remains as evidence for this Age of Giants exists in the form of ancient ruins, lost artifacts, and the fossilized bones of the giants themselves.   At some point after the giants' decline, new races emerged to inhabit the continent: stone-age humans, dwarves and orcs all developed on the future Crestfall, each carving out niches and territories across the continent's wide surface.   Just as these races began to usher in the first bronze age, the continent was met with the arrival of the elves crossing over to the Prime Material Plane from their home in the Feywild; the magically-advanced elves made quick work of colonizing the continent and expanding outwards to lands beyond, as well as enslaving the comparatively defenceless sentient races they encountered. The elves named the land Cresdvol, celebrating the vast and untapped resources the land provided, making it their foothold and seat of power in the Prime Material world of Teranuz.   Eventually, in their competitive vying for the continent and its resources, the elven factions known as the Eladrin and the Drow broke out in a full-scale conflict known as the Millennium War. For one thousand years, the magical warfare of the warring elves claimed countless lives and forever altered the face of the conflict, until the war was eventually ended by the human wizard Vance.   In the Modern Era, humanity has risen to become the dominant force of the continent, now known as Crestfall, with much of the continent's Eastern lands falling under the jurisdiction of the human-dominated Hegian Empire. Much of the continent is currently in the midst of an industrial revolution, with magical and technological advancements continuing to change the landscape of the continent, for better or worse.
