Gotwiel (Got Wheel)
The Trading Town of Gotwiel is a fairly old city founded by the Easterlings or, as they call themselves the Kingdom of Rapal Coast
The city has changed hands a few times between the Republic of the Valley and the Kingdom of Rapal Coast.
History
Early Times The town was built around a trading post set up along the cliffs south of the Deep Pass, a depression created long ago by a falling star. Homes were set up across the landscape. The greatest structure of Gotwiel is the Library of Ioun This building was set up by a group of fastidious rabbitfolk on the northern slopes of the Southern Slopes. The major trade going out of the region was the valuable fruits and nuts that were grown at the Bell Farms. the Trade Wars During the Trade Wars the Republic of the Valley attacked the Easterlings and burned many of the homes to the ground in the North of Gotwiel. Those who were not killed were enslaved. The last hold out were the Wizards of Greenwood a group of powerful animalkin and elven wizards that fought bravely against the invaders. The major loss in the Trade Wars was the Bell Farm. Still a point of anger amongst the Easterlings. During the War the Trade Routes are ravaged by Highwaymen and bandits. This causes severe losses to the merchants guild and makes the Kingdom of Rapal Coast send more soldiers to fight them spreading thier forces thinner and thinner. The 1st Dragon War During the Early Years of the Dragon Wars the Easterlings were uninvolved. They instead were rebuilding from the devastation of the Trade Wars The major infrastructure project that was completed before they entered the war was the great draining of the Southern parts of the Gotten Bog A series of dams and drains were set up to make the land arable. A wizard from the Greenwood uses magic to reinforce the dams. After entering the war heavy taxes are leveraged on the peoples. This causes the Merchants to lose a lot of thier sway in Gotwiel. After the reconquest of the Northern part of Gotwiel the old trees and plants of the Bell Farms are replanted in the fields of Gotten Bog. Present Day The city is built up and makes a more peaceful existence in more recent years. A group of Trolls take up residence along the Southern Pass making it difficult to get information to the small village of Winterpen. Power is consolidated under the crown of the Kingdom of Rapal Coast due to increasing loyalty from the citizens in Gotwiel.
