Areas of the Keep: Loan Bank
Here anyone can store their money and items safely, and conduct financial business in town such as the procurement of real estate and acquisition of permits for opening a shop or for new construction. The loan bank can exchange currencies between the Realm gold coin (the Graapt or G.), the Marleven silver coinage (the Serkh, or S., 1/10 of a G) and the Empire of Spice and Silk's copper coinage (the Cerkh or C., 1/100 of a G) at the going rate with a 10% brokerage fee, though all are the currencies are readily accepted here in the Keep; Marleven prefers its own silver coinage and devalues the G by about 20%, and the Empires of Spice and silk may devalue the G even more, so travelers are advised to exchange coins here before their journey to either destination.
There are a number of clerks working here, most scrawny old business types, though the Elven accountant Bershaba bucks the stereotype.
The building is itself a guardhouse on its upper floors, and watchtower abuts the building, so any disruption or threat will be met with 2D6+ 12 soldiers within 1d4-1 rounds, a 0 indicating that 4 soldiers are in the corners of the stone building already and will immediately enter initiative. A door in the central section behind the counter leads to the vault in the basement where items are kept in safe storage, and this area immediately at the bottom of the landing is always guarded by 1d4+3 Mercenaries in half plate and bearing mauls and light crossbows, as well as nets and manacles. Any number of other theft-defeating traps and devices may also be found here.
