Heartstone core

A gentle whirring fills your ears at you enter the central chamber underneath the Stronghold. The throbbing runes of the gem spinning in the middle of the chamber cause weird and colorful shadows to play across the walls and vaulted ceiling. You feel the wash of pure magic flowing over and through you. This is the beating Heart of Elden Stronghold. Crafted during the Elder Age to bolster the defenses, the scene just describe is only a memory as the gem has gone still in the last 1000 years.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The Heartstone core is the main power source for the fortress. When activated it creates a field of pure magical energies, fueling various conduits around the fortress as well as the powers of the casters within. The way it does this is lost with the research, but it is believed that the last occupant were on the edge of a breakthrough.

History

This ancient stone sits at the heart of Elden Stronghold. Its deep stores of magic used to fuel the defenses of the fortress during the Elder Age, but has fallen silent and still. Recently(1298), a group attempted to revitalize this stronghold, but the project was abandoned. For reasons not properly known, nearly all of the resources were left behind, including the research on the core.
Rumors surrounding the Heartstone Core and the Elden Stronghold claim that the Council of Elder Lieges still hold a bounty for whoever can reclaim the research and resources, and further rewards for any willing to continue the research.
