Session 4
General Summary
Overview:
Aftering hearing about a large bounty set on a bandit with named Nowles the Spider, the party decided to track them down and claim the bounty for themselves.Notable Things That happened:
- The session began with Kennan providing information about Nowles the Spider to the party. He told them that Nowles was from the chaotic region known as Sephith’s Wasteland and that they have been spotted frequently in the Bethaunian settlement of Rahnor. As the party left Kennan's office, he stopped and thanked them for all the support they have provided the Region of Vei’on.
- After stopping by The Rusty Post to purchase some discounted armour, the party overheard a group of local kids whispering that the party members are “heroes of Vei’on”.
- As the party was about to leave for the town of Rahnor, they were stopped by Miles McDavis. He wanted to replace his scarred face with a wolf head, so he asked Sir Clancey to perform the operation. Sir Clancey obliged and replaced Miles’ head with the wolf head.
- On the way to Rahnor, the party stumbled across a valley of holes in the ground. Near a tree at the centre of the holes, the party found a dead body clutching a dirty treasure map. Daniel casted the raise dead spell on the body and, after asking it some questions, deduced that the dead man had been looking at the map from the wrong orientation.
- After orienting the map properly, the party found the true location of the treasure near the settlement of Nimphus. They proceeded to dig up the chest, which contained a wedding ring with foreign engravings on it. After uncovering the chest, the party was driven away from the area by a territorial Roc bird.
- Two nights before arriving in Rahnor, the party was awoken by the sound of a horse drawn carriage. The party decided to investigate the carriage and found it was being ridden by a spectral skeleton named Montgomery. The skeleton was caught off guard when the party was able to see him, but quickly shook it off and began bartering with the party as a travelling merchant. The party purchased multiple top hat’s of perspective, an immortal bonsai tree, and a summoning bell that could be rung to summon Montgomery. After this exchange, Montgomery thanked the party for their business and rode off into the night.
- The party arrived in Rahnor a questioned some of the locals about Nowles the Spider. They learnt that Nowles would send an errand boy to the local tavern every night at 9 pm for supplies and that Nowles is female.
- At 9pm, the party waited outside the tavern. After a shady figure took some supplies, Lorival and John Doe used stealth to follow the figure to Nowles' hideout in the woods.
- The party infiltrated the hideout using stealth and meticulously cleared out Nowles' party without being noticed. Finally, they located Nowles, who was in her tent juggling some firebombs for fun. Two displacer beasts were also sleeping outside her tent.
- Lorival used stealth to sneak past the sleeping beasts and was able to successfully sneak attack Nowles. However, as Nowles was defeated she dropped one of the firebombs she was juggling. Luckily, Daniel the Bard was able to use his mage hand to catch the bomb, preventing it from exploding.
- The party looted Nowles' tent and found some extra firebombs, equipment, notes on the Deorum religion, and a letter addressed to Lenny.
- After defeating Nowles' party and looting the camp, the party doused the place in oil and lit it ablaze. One of the displacer beasts did survive the fire but, due to the injuries it sustained from the fire, the party was able to defeat it with ease.
- The party returned to the City of Vei’on to claim their bounty but found the city in shambles. They also discovered that their good friend Miles McDavis had been killed and crucified just outside of town. Below Miles’ body, the words “Gorm is coming for you” was written in blood.
- The party spoke with the City of Vei’on's mayor, Regis Filleman, and learnt that a man named Carl, presumably the same man that wrote the letter to Lenny, invaded the City of Vei’on and kidnapped Kennan. He also claimed to know some information on Gorm.
- The party made a deal with Regis. He proposed that if the party was able to rescue Kennan from the grasp of Carl, he would provide them with information on Gorm. Wanting to avenge their friend, the party was willing to accept this deal. However, after noticing that Regis was desperate, Sir Clancey was able to persuade him into also giving the party a higher position in Vei’on’s political structure if they were to successful. Regis accepted the conditions and the party had their next mission.
