Boavan

The ambitious Blood-Sons

Written by David_Ulph

Vampyres of the Boavan ethnicity are treated as the second highest in the grand hierarchy, taking over from the Manan after their trapping by the Great Western Empire. They are a highly civilised strain of Vampyre who have spread west, piercing into Skìrah.

Boavan Vampyres are the major Vampyrical race in the Valhol Hold of Skìrah. In the Third Age, they do not hold any legitimate power in the Hold, but do have aspirations, leading to the Boavan bloodlines integrating into local communities and places of importance in the legitimate or underworld of the Hold. As it is a Korg Hold, the Vampyres masquerade as Dagor Humans for their own protection. From their abattoir in Valsport, the Boavans contain a small army of living Thralls entranced by their masters' charms and devotees of the Wapierzic religion.

Biology

Boavan Vampyres have paler skin than a normal Dagor, almost white which has developed to further disguise themselves as the southern foreigners living in the cold north. Their upper canine fangs are only slightly more pronounced than a standard human's and their lower canines do not resemble fangs at all. Boavan Vampyres have more pronounced noses, appearing as if they have been crushed inwards slightly, with sharp ridges above their raised nostrils coming from the makeup of the skull. This aids in their ability to sniff out prey when hunting.

As with all Vampyre ethnicities, those of a Boavan bloodline have certain abilities that make them unique. Boavan bloodlines can transform their bodies into that of a giant bat, sprouting tufts of fur, elongated ears, and the expansion of loose skin on the sides of their abdomens to create functional wings. Additionally, Boavan Vampyres can secrete an illusionary smell in their sweat which allows any nearby breathers to become charmed by the Vampyres good looks and honeyed words, whether they have them or not.

Common Customs

It is understood that Boavan Vampyres have a natural obsession with domination and power play, but in history are usually undermined and outplayed by the superior Upir Vampyres. This has led to an ethnic rivalry between the two which is suggested why the Boavan have been the bloodlines to emigrate so far away from the Upir Mistlands.

The common method of killing prey in the Boavan Vampyre culture is beheading, believing that they can only eat the meat from a soulless carcass and so taking the head off the kill will allow safe passage for the soul to leave the body. This has led the Boavan to adopt the Veperitist Sect of the Wapierzic Faith as there is a repulsion of the ideals of soul devouring and the belief of "shared blood". The Veperitist Sect also opposes the ruling Upir bloodlines, which the natural Boavan rivalry made it easy for the bloodlines to convert.
