Dun Eldear
The Throne of House Aesmirr
Purpose / Function
Dun Eldear, roughly translated from Old Speech as Castle Elder, is the residence and throne of the House of Gods. As the residency of the Earl of Valhol Hold and head of House Aesmirr, Dun Eldear was the capital of the Earldom of Valhol.
The castle was built by the ancient Kings and Queens of Midden Korgs before the Frosian Korgs settled on this land. It was built to guard nearby harbours which are very important for trade in Skìrah.
Given adequate foodstores, the castle can sustain up to 600 people while withstanding 9 months of siege, more than any other Korg castle.
Denizens
A total of 40 soldiers and 60 archers are regularly stationed in Dun Eldear.
Architecture
Dun Eldear is an exotic castle well fortified against a variety of attacks. It is very compact and contains six tall spires all connected by impressive walls built of local stone. The castle is set on a cliff overlooking the sea and is approached by a paved road overgrown with moss.
Dun Eldear is protected by an impressive curtain wall, multiple outer defensive walls and an immensely fortified barbican, which appears to be the only visible means of entry. The main spires are well-guarded behind the multiple layers of defensive barriers and include living quarters for the noble family, soldier barracks, an armoury, dungeons, and a set of escape tunnels that run like rabbit warrens through the cliff. The castle also features a crypt, an aviary, and many comfortable bed chambers.
The largest of the spires, House Aesmirr's personal quarters, is built of red marble and is topped by a golden bell tower.
History
The castle is best known for a vast wealth in precious stones and a warm hearth that welcomes any travellers, as House Aesmirr always tries to keep neutrality in the affairs of others.
