Story Behind the Name

Nestled within this quaint town is a notable establishment known as "The Beheaded Orc Inn," a place where the spirits of both ale and adventure intertwine. Owned by the resilient Toblen Stonehill, this inn carries a name that bears the weight of a somber history.   The story behind the inn's peculiar name dates back to a fateful night, known as the Thunderskull Invasion, when tragedy struck Toblen's life. The orc menace had descended upon Phandalin, leaving sorrow in its wake. In the midst of the chaos, Toblen Stonehill faced a heart-wrenching loss—the untimely demise of his beloved wife, Janey Stonehill, at the hands of a ruthless orc tribe leader, Akzakk Thunderskull.   The wake of carnage was large, the last of the orc tribes, Thunderskull Tribe, on the island of Lockfate Holm, stormed Phandalin, slaying citizens and burning down cabins. The citizens fought defiantly against the tribe but it was too much. Eventually the tribe was pushed back to Masked Bear Thicket by the Helm's Bulwark.   Fueled by grief and a thirst for justice, Toblen took matters into his own hands. In a courageous act of vengeance, he confronted the orc responsible in one on one combat and, against all odds, emerged victorious. The beheading of this malevolent creature became a symbol of Toblen's resilience and the indomitable spirit of Phandalin.   In honor of his late wife and as a testament to the strength that can rise from the depths of tragedy, Toblen Stonehill named his inn "The Beheaded Orc." Within its welcoming walls, patrons not only find solace in the hearty fare and warm hearth but also in the shared stories of overcoming adversity.
