The Càlenal Grove
Geography
Located along the coastline of Brunïr's Bay and Lake Edwyn, the Càlenal Grove shares much of it's geographic location with the plentiful bodies of water of Lothlonde. The south central interior semi-dry-mesic grove covers mostly flat to gently rolling terrain, it butts up against the easternmost reaches of the The Jade Forest, and the southernmost point of The Moonwood Vale.
Fauna & Flora
90% of the Càlenal Grove is comprised of calenwood trees, which are similar to a common oak. Other less common broadleaf species exist, notably the now-endangered harknut tree. At one point during the second age, there was an almost equal split of calenwood and harknut trees, but the latter was almost entirely destroyed as a result of the harknut blight near the end of the age. Fewer than three percent of the grove now contains this rare tree, it's nuts highly sought after by culinary experts.
Common shrubs with harvestable sustenance in this region include the Vindera Assoca (spice berry), Mamelia Vergosa (asnerberry), Azulia Pallidum (blackberry), Cantaria Astarias (red gooseberry), and the Crimsai Duinisa (raspberry). The Minisia Rymithia (mayapple) is also native to this region, but it's fruit is highly poisonous when consumed in it's unripe green state. The ripened yellow fruit is edible in very small amounts, but can also become toxic when consumed in excess. The most common use of the fruit from the mayapple is topical medicinal applications.
Natural Resources
Similar to jadewood, calenwood is a precious wood that can be specially harvested to fortify weapons and tools. The exact method of extraction to yield these rare qualities is believed to be possibly magical in nature, and is a regional secret that is fiercely protected by tribes of druids. When harvested utilizing druidic methods, the wood remains natural wood in almost every manner, except that it is as strong, heavy, and resistant to fire as is steel.
