Battle Island
Battle Islands is an island in the Emerald Isles Shallows. Battle Island is home to the Emerald Coliseum, an arena built for gladiator battles and other similar fighting events, giving the island its name.
Battle Island is sometimes known as the "Carnal Island", as it is well known as a haven for gambling, alcohol, and other non-puritan activities.
Geography
Battle Island is a flat, low-laying island. The island has been stripped of any natural resources that grew above ground. As a result of this, the island has been a flat, sandy orange rock since at least 600 3E.
History
Battle Island was first stripped of its natural resources around 550 ModEr. After receiving a less than warm greeting from the citizens of the Greenwood, the Splitriver City early settlers turned to the Emerald Isles for lumber to build their city, effectively flattening Battle Island, as well as {NAME NEEDED} Island to the north. The island remained a flat rock until sometime before 600 3E when it began service as a penal settlement.
The prisoners on Battle Island were given a chance to fight for their freedom once per year during the Harvest Festival on the mainland, and would use the Island as a training ground throughout their imprisonment. This system continued until the around 640 ModEr, when Crescent City opened their first underground dungeon to house prisoners. When the incarceration system left the island, many free gladiators remained, honing their craft on the island, continuing to participate in gladiator battles during the Harvest Festival.
In 657, Osindre Wellweather, Steward of Emerald Point, began construction of the Emerald Coliseum on the island. The coliseum was completed in time for the 663 Harvest Festival, when it hosted its first gladiator battle. The event came with so much fanfare that the island received its moniker as Battle Island after the event, having previously been known only as The Island during it's time as a penal settlement.
Since the coliseum's opening, Battle Island has grown into a source of entertainment for the wealthiest among the Emerald Isles, adventurers, and other affluent merchants alike.
Tourism
Battle Island is a hub for tourism. While the gladiator battles at the Emerald Coliseum are the primary attraction, the island has plenty to offer adults looking for fun. Gambling and other skill games run rampant along the island, while the Battlescar Inn provides a bed to sleep off the excitement before returning to one's ship the next morning. Skirmish Brewery is the only Brewery authorized to sell Islip Ale outside of Tenfold Brewery on the mainland.
