Session 1: Recruiting the Assassin
General Summary
Following the Battle of Cat's Eye Grace, the Band of the Unfettered Dawn had completed their contract with the Boravici Family, but Ashur ben-Damos was unsatisfied following the way they had been misled and used by Luminaster. As the Band prepared to withdraw from the Swamp Cat's Pass Fort, discussing their next job, an archer in Boravici colors appeared at the Fort. Sarsia Highwind had resigned from the Boravici service due to a disagreement in their conduct and wished to join the Company.
Ashur requested a test of loyalty to kill Luminaster. The company was heading to Moonstone anyway to seek a new contract. Lucia was asked to follow after Sarsia as insurance. While Lucia and Sarsia went to the Boravici villa, Bell went to the Garden, an inn that tended towards an aristocratic clientele. She met with Sofia Vasari who was seeking mercenaries to assist her in alleviating a threat to trade in Beryl. Given the distance between Moonstone and Beryl, she could not provide many pertinent details but assured the company that her family in Beryl were investigating and there would be more info when they arrived.
Gerard, while wandering around, got himself turned about and ended up at the Garden drinking with Ashur while Bell negotiated.
In the Boravici villa, Lucia got caught as she was climbing over the walls, leading the guards around in a chase while Sarsia snuck inside. Knowing her way through the house, Sarsia came to the office, only to find instead of Luminaster, his wife Lucrezia, a trueborn daughter of the Boravici Family. Before she could be caught, Sarsia assassinated Lucrezia and then tried to sneak off through the corridors, after hiding in the closet and killing the guard, but she was pinned in the room. Lucia managed to evade the guards and come to assist Sarsia as they fought their way through the hallway, encountering Alisander and some Boravici soldiers. While they were wounded in the battle, they managed to fight their way you, leaving Alisander and many of the guards with arrows in their faces. Lucia also had been seen, so it is unknown if the Boravici have seen the symbol of the company upon her clothes.
The two got away, though Luminaster is still alive. Ashur and Bell and Gerard decided to accept the Vasari contract.
