Welkania

Welkania was one of the five Great Kingdoms of Styressia. Situated up north, the Kingdom was the most independent and cultural distant from the other three. They original controlled the entirety of the Helhammer Mountains, including the now Heleninum cities of Heraloniki and Theva. But the Heleninum conquered those lands after the Great Northern War in 1146 AC.
Many contemporary Welkanian chronicles blame not only Heleninum for their aggression, but the Styressian Kingdom of Alturia for their inaction. As a result, Welkania spent the centuries thereafter endeavoring to creating instability and sow dissent in those lands whenever able.
In 1547 AC, King Leo III of Alturia finally subdued the Welkania Kingdom, conquering Tronsvik and ousting send the royal family into exile. The conquest was thought to have ended the antagonistic plans of the Welkanians, but alas it did not. Whenever the opportunity arose, the people of Welkania rose up against what they saw as their occupiers.
After years of uprisings and rebellions, Welkania regained much of their authority after Erkhart's Rebellion from 1704 to 1715 AC. The conclusion of that war was so catastrophic for the Alturian's, Styressia was forced into a dual monarchy. As it stands now, Styressia is ruled jointly by House Nylissa in Tronsvik and House Alturia in Velkslanda.
