Duchy of Rosebrier

Notable House Qualities: Adventurous (Risk-taking), Inventive, Merchants, Competitive

Structure

The Reinhardts were one of the weakest families of House Rosebrier in the 1840s, and their reputation of intermixing with the lower class as ‘just a bunch of hedonists’ kept them from gaining the respect of their peers or gaining much power. That changed with the Elemental Revolution and the Eisen Revolution when their friends and allies within both the Academia Casus and the Academy of Adventuring Arts propelled their fortunes to stardom. The Reinhardts quickly became the house to be friends with, both in and out of the nobility, and they were able to use that fame to take the Chancellor position for House Rosebrier in 1876.   The Grunstrom family has the most inventors of any family in House Rosebrier, and they have cultivated that reputation through both intermarriage and raising enterprising commoners to nobility as a reward for making notable contributions to eletech technology. This has the advantage of both keeping knowledge within the house, and generating revenue through patents and licensing. Although Cora Grunstrom is the head of her family, she scandalously divorced her husband, Martin Grunstrom, in 1878, citing irreconcilable differences. Since then, Cora has taken up residence in Novandria and has served as advisor to the Reinhardt family, while her ex-husband manages the family estates in Freeburg. Their daughter, Gretta Grunstrom, has lived primarily with her father, but is expected to join the society in Novandria in 1883.   The Messingschmidt family is renowned for their blacksmithing skills, with many dwarves of the family specializing in different types of metals. The Messingschmidts have been a part of Eisen nobility since before the founding of Eisen, and their alliances with the Sommers has opened up trade around Europa. Although not every Messingschmidt is considered an inventor in their own right, their expertise with crafting has turned many ideas into working prototypes.   The Sommer family is the commercial powerhouse of House Rosebrier, and their family owns and controls not only the steamships of the house, but also the airships of the house. What started out as a simple trade deal between the Sommers and the Messingschmidts became a powerful trade alliance as the Sommers joined House Rosebrier and traded Messingschmidt crafts around Europa. Their ships were the first Eisen steamships to be retrofitted with new eletech engines, and they were the first captains of eletech airships.   Always faithful, though to different gods over the years, the Rosebrier family had directed the house since before the founding of Eisen in 1525, and their progenitor, Katja Rosebrier, was one of the original founders. Until the elemental revolution, House Rosebrier was the smallest of the six great houses of Eisen. That changed once the Reinhardts took control of the house in 1858. Since then, the Rosebrier family has lost power, but continues to be the heart of the house. Although the other houses are concerned with invention and commerce, the Rosebriers have been the ones to consider the social ramifications and the challenges that the people face, noble and commoner alike.

Culture

House Rosebrier is located in northeastern Eisen, from Stralsund Point south to Freeburg, west to the Sinderra River and north to Novandria.  Rodstock is the traditional seat of House Rosebrier, but since taking the Chancellor position in 1876, they have consolidated much of their power in Novandria.   House Rosebrier is known for being the foremost leader of the Elemental Revolution in Eisen, providing funding for many inventors and an avenue for those inventors to sell their products. They are also known for their merchant ships, both airship and steamship alike.   House Rosebrier’s goal is to promote the trade of eletech technology, both foreign and domestic, and to provide a platform for inventors of all stripes to sell their products. They work towards this goal by encouraging diplomacy with foreign countries and supporting an environment free to experiment.   House Idealogy
All people should be free to invent
Commoners and nobles alike should work together to better society
Trade should not be limited
Anything that makes people’s lives easier gives them more time to invent and push society forward

Public Agenda

The Rosebrier family, though they have the name of the house, fell out of favor and lost control of the house with the election of the first Rosebrier chancellor in 1876. The Rosebriar name in the late 1840s was synonymous with stability and they are currently considered one of the most conservative families in Rosebrier house. With the rise of elemental technology, many members of House Rosebrier jumped at the chance to create new inventions and sponsor new inventors, no matter their class, while the Rosebrier family encouraged caution and safety. Those members of House Rosebrier that tied their fortunes to the new eletech inventions, funded inventors and experiments alike, saw their fortunes rise.   The most prosperous family to take advantage of this new wave of technology was the Reinhardt family, whose satyrs had gotten to know the inventors at not only the Academia Casus, but the Academy of Adventuring Arts, too. This gave them an unparalleled access to a pool of inventors that was unrivaled by any other family or house in Eisen, and they used this advantage to push Eisen and Europa into a new age.   The family Rosebrier still serves the house as a cautionary voice and a guiding hand in house politics, slowly pushing for incremental social reforms, but they haven’t forgotten that the Reinhardts were the cause of their downfall. While they won’t actively sabotage the Reinhardts, as that would hurt House Rosebrier’s status as the most powerful noble house in Eisen, they are more willing to compete against them by allying with the conservative members of House Osterland and House Arden.   House Arden is the primary rival of House Rosebrier, being both politically opposed and physically close to House Rosebrier lands. House Osterlind’s relations with House Rosebrier is also strained, given most of the house’s focus on elemental technology. However, both houses are known to make political compromises with members of the Rosebrier family given their mutual goals of keeping Eisen safe.   The Messingschmidt family and the Grunstrom family have a close working relationship - the Grunstroms come up with ideas for inventions, and the Messingschmidts make them come to life.   Likewise, the Messingschmidt family and the Sommer family are closely aligned, having built a trading relationship for generations. Together, they tie most of House Rosebrier together.   House Rosebrier, as the leading house of Eisen, has alliances both large and small, with all of the major houses of Eisen. Although some relations are strained, members of the house work to form trade deals and negotiate tough political compromises across the country. In addition, members of House Rosebrier maintain relationships and negotiate trade and diplomacy across Europa, primarily through the Sommer family.   Before the Elemental Revolution, House Rosebrier was a conservative house that focused on trade of traditional crafts, but with the rise of the Reinhardt family, attitudes towards more traditional separation between commoner and noble alike have eroded, and they have become a progressive house that encourages competition. Many in the house have realized that men, women, and ama’il alike can equally be inventors, softening, but not eliminating, many traditional gender roles.

Assets

House Rosebrier has jumped to the forefront of eletech technology, and many other houses depend upon the products that they produce. Combined with the mercantile power of the Sommer family, House Rosebrier has become a household name for much of Terranon.   House Rosebrier earns their wealth through patents and creating new inventions that they then sell.   House Rosebrier uses the power of their house to push forward invention and progress safely.
