The Bluerian People

Naming Traditions

Feminine names

Bluerian female given names are quite varied compared to their male counterparts, typically anywhere from two to four syllables. Female names usually sound melodic. Common given names include Catharine, Yvonne, Lorraine, Mathilde, Merlind, Elise, Leonarda, and Bruna.

Masculine names

Bluerian male given names are typically short, around two or three syllables. Male names usually sound quite blunt. Common given names include Albert, Bruno, Randalf, Sieghart, Harald, Roderick, and Hermann. Reinhard and Everard are among the less common names, but they are still widely used.

Family names

Bluerian family names are extremely varied, though vocational and location-based names remain common. In a recent census of Blueria, Bennett, Vannier, Chappelle, Dior, Marchand, and Trenois were found to be the most common family names. The Astier name is very uncommon.

Other names

Most Bluerians will have no secondary (middle) name, 1, or 2. These are typically not shared except with those very close and can sometimes be used as passwords. Secondary names are usually shorter than given names, with one or two syllables at most. Many secondary names can be used by either gender. Common secondary names include Jean, André, Reine, Remi, Anne, Marie, Claire, Sophie, and Leslie.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

The official language of the Bluerian people and the nation is Bluerian, though many speak the Torvalli trade language, Common.

Shared customary codes and values

1. Treat all people with respect -- young, old, junior, senior 2. Work hard, but take care of yourself 3. Always try to help -- be empathetic, be supportive 4. No matter your station in life, you are not above anyone -- take off a king's crown, and he is but a man.

Historical figures

Alain Astier was both the last Governor and the first King of Blueria. It was thanks to Alain Astier that the province was granted independence.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

Blueria is among those that subscribes to the 'Delvarian standard' of beauty. Olive skin, fair hair, and dark eyes are considered the most attractive. There are no particular bodily standards, but a bit of weight to a person is considered a sign of good health.

Gender Ideals

Men and women are typically not separated in terms of responsibilities or how they should act.

Major organizations

Most Bluerians are residents of Blueria, though some have emigrated to other nations. The majority of Bluerians are members of the Children of the Light and the Earth, but some follow other faiths or are wholly irreligious.
