The Diozic Inquisition

Since the Kingdom of Isperia has been beset by plague and creatures of the night, Rey Fulgencio believes this to be a manifestation of the seditious thoughts and doubts among his people. He has created the inquisition to root out these doubts, and to prove to the people of his kingdom and those of the Five Crown Concordat that his kingdom is blessed by Dioz, the new monotheistic deity who demands no other gods before it.

Structure

The organization is headed by Grand Inquisitor Cardinal Roberto Aragon, with his subordinates organzied thus:
  1. Lady of Confession, Marta Castejónn: Confronts those suspected of conspiring with the enemy or other heresies, obtains their confession by any means necessary.
    • Confessors- a group of spies and double agents who infiltrate the lives of suspected heretics, and ingratiate themselves to them, in order to extract confessions. Usually very beautiful actors, who use their good looks and charms to lower the guards of potential heretics. Also trained in torture techniques.
  2. Lord of Purification, Martin Abarquero: commander of the Purifiers, he and his men carry out sentences handed down by Lady Marta.
    • Purifiers- Lord Martin's band of killers and executioners.
  3. Lord of Investigation, Xabier Carretero: also known as el raton de Dioz, Xabier seems to be all-knowing, with his spies and informants everywhere.
    • Investigators- Lord Xabier's spies and double agents who collect information on supposed heretics. The stealthiest of the bunch, utilizing invisibility or clarivoyance/audience spells to collect information without being compromised.

Culture

The culture of the inquisition is one of discovery, judgement, and persecution. Their goal is to subjugate the people of Isperia that Fulgencio deems agitators or usurpers, and to purge it of any who would question or subvert their lords' desires and ambitions.

Public Agenda

Rey Fulgencio de Cardenas has stated publicly, in the presence of the other 3 heads of the inquisition, that there is a dark, shadowy specter of doubt among his people, and that this must be purged if they are to flourish as a kingdom: to compete on the same stage as the great empires of Terrathria, they must be united in purpose and in thought. There is no room for dissenters if his kingdom is to become the equal of those signitories of The Five Crown Concordat

Assets

The Kingdom of Isperia has a great wealth in silver and gold mines at the base of the Shattertooth mountains, which previously funded the Rhonish aristocracy's expensive tastes. Now, they are using their money to purchase and refurbish old Ellenik and Albian ships in an attempt to sail south to the mythical Itaju Tava, a fabled city of riches far to the south in the jungles near Marajoa.

History

The organziation's history is short, but active: since Rey- at the time Duke- Fulgencio came to power 4 years ago, breaking the province of Isperia away from the Kingdom of Rhone and establishing himself and his subjects as a distinct political entity, there have been mutterings in Occidean noble society about this upstart young kingdom: both their impotence at breaking away from one of the five Old Crowns, and at the potential for Fulgencio's kingdom to become a powerful new ally if they could be placated, or controlled.   Against this backdrop, Rey Fulgencio created the Inquisition. He knows of the dissent among his people: Rhonish nobles still living in his kingdom who publicly pledged their support, but secretly report his movements to the Rhonish crown; people who believe him to be too grasping and power-hungry. There many who believe that the plague which has descended upon their kingdom is Fulgencio's fault, that he has brought down the wrath of Dioz for his insolence. There are even whispers in dark corners of the kingdom, in secret resistance meetings in old Rhonish wine cellars, that Rey Fulgencio bargained with an archdevil for his crown, and the soul of his kingdom is paying the price.   In order to root out these opinions, and to present a more stable and united kingdom to the Old Crowns, Rey Fulgencio created the Inquisition, to quash all seditious talk from his people.
