Broken Heart

The team goes to slay a dragon that was terrorizing a village protecting a secret buried in the mountains that needs help slaying the dragon.
A master mage, Obeus Ofandrus , who lives in the town of Hogate and his wife Pynalia Ofandrus have done everything they could to protect the town but it just wasnt enough. As Pynalia, was helping the team get settled, she explained that the gold dragons have been attacking the town for months. They are unsure why the dragons are attacking now and what can be done to appease them. The town had collected some gold/expensive items to leave for the dragons as an offering. The dragons took the offering but continued their relentless attacks on the town. Almost all able bodied soldiers/guards from this town and nearby towns have been either killed or injured trying to protect the town from the beasts.
As this is being explained, Krastor Terborn, one of the town elders, interrupts and asks the party if he can show them around town briefly while Obeus and Pynalia continue their preperations for the final attack on the dragons. Krastor shows the team to a secluded part of town and explains to them that the town had recently begun mining in the Rosterre Highlands for a very rare ore called Arcanite which can be used to channel magic and enhance runes. Shortly after the mining began, the dragons began their attacks. Krastor has returned to town a week or two ago to after leaving town to research why the dragon may have been attacking. Through his research, he found that the arcanite is an ore that gold dragons use to help grow their young and help them develop their magic affinity. So the mining is likely disrupting the development of the youth and they are trying to remove the hinderance to their youth's growth.
After that is revealed, the team sees the shadow of a dragon overhead and hears a roar and screams coming from the direction of the Ofandrus' home. The team runs over to the home and see that a dragon had attack their house and killed Obeus in front of Pynalia. Just as the team arrives, the dragon steals Obeus' staff and flies away. Pynalia sobs over her husband's corpse and begs the group to avenge her husband. Krastor pulls them aside again and tells them about Pynalia and how she used to be a prisoner of war from the Achyan Empire. She was a master of the magic tower there (The Tower of Kraqora) and tried to overthrow the empire using magic so they need to be careful of her. As they go back to console Pynalia, they see that she is gone and has likely left to go fight the dragon to avenge her husband. Krastor tells the team where the Dragon nest is thought to be i the highlands and gives them a potion of healing in case there are more dragons afoot.
The team travels to the Arcanite mine which was just past the dragon's nest. While the team climbs the mountain, they see numerous gold dragons flying away from the mountains almost in fear. As they pass the Dragon's nest, they hear a cry of unbearable pain and anguish coming from the Dragon's nest and the sound reverberated through the highlands. Once they arrive at the mine, the find it to be abandoned with all the machines and tools still inside as if the workers left in a hurry. The team decided to destroy the machines so that the ore could no longer be harvested. The reverberations of the machines being destroyed caused the cave system to collapse starting in the deepest part of the cave. The team hurried out of the cave and after some difficulty were able to make it out of the cave just as it was collapsing. Once they have finished that task, the team decided to hurry to the Dragon's nest to see exactly what was happening
As the team gets to the dragon's cave, they see the dragon slain with its heart cut out of its body. Following the trail, they see Pynalia using necromantic runes to resurrect Obeus using the magic within the dragon heart. The team can see that she is a darker more sinister version of the Pynalia that they knew from prior. The team fights Pynalia as she attempts to continue her resurrection using teleportation and sheilds to stop them from interrupting her progress.  Eventually, the team is able to cause her to actively fight them and she casts large waves of necromatic magic that nearly kills the party.  While she is actively fighting the team, Pynalia is still attempting to complete the ressurection.  However, just before she is able to complete the spell, the team knocks her down to the ground in apparent defeat. 
And at that moment, she looks up and makes eye contact with Dol and says "An eye for an eye right?" Once she says that Dol falls to the ground unconscious and her body is covered in an egg like cocoon. The cocoon starts to glow and pulse with more energy the longer that is stays surrounding Pynalia's body. Immediately, the team starts to attack the cocoon around Pynalia after determining that if this last resort "self destruct" of sorts is completed then Dol will die as well. After attacking the cocoon until the last possible moment before they can feel the life drain from Dol's body, the cocoon shrivels and opens up to reveal that Pynalia's body is no longer inside the egg. At the same moment that the egg opens, Dol begins to wake up from unconsciousness and the team breathes a sigh of relief.  Upon investigation, Obeus' body also disappeared from the cave at the same time that Pynalia did but it is unsure what happened to both of them and if they were truly dead or were alive somehow.
After scouring the cave for treasure and finding a few rare artifacts and a significant amount of gold that each person was able to carry with them, the team returns to the town to tell Krastor about what happened. Once the team approaches the Inn, they find Krastor and inform him about everything that happend. Krastor seems very sad about the fate of Pynalia and Obeus but thankful that the team was able to find a solution to the problem with the attacking gold dragons without killing them.  He offered some money to the team but it only was about 100 gold per person.
