The Tapestry functions like a protective shell, shielding the Material Plane and the Elemental Planes from the vastness of the Astral Sea, as well as from the intense energies of the Wells. Its role is akin to that of a planet's magnetosphere, which defends against excessive solar radiation. The Tapestry is woven with the emotions of mortals, and there is a prevailing belief that if it were ever to fall, the overwhelming powers it holds back would flood into the Material Plane, potentially triggering cataclysmic events akin to another Titan War or Godswar. This has led some to speculate that the creation of the Foundation Pillars was directly linked to maintaining the Tapestry. Conversely, others believe that the existence of the Tapestry is sustained by the mortals themselves, implying that it would only collapse if mortal life were to cease. Additionally, the Ethereal Plane is notable for being the home of a unique race known as the Wordkin.
