Dróttinnlauss

Dróttinnlauss (from Old Norscan, meaning; Free People. Those without obligation. The Masterless).

Originally from a small nothing village in the frigid cold of the Goatsoove Isle, the Dróttinnlauss came from hardy stock; either defending their isolated village from attack or being forced to raid by some noble or other.
After one raid went incredibly wrong, or incredibly right, Dróttinnlauss forged out on their own as mercenaries, in hopes of finding their fortune, and their own land.

Dróttinnlauss joined the warhost, offering their skills and service to any who would pay. In particular, the Celestial College, who soon kept Dróttinnlauss on retainer. The Dróttinnlauss fought in many battles while contracted to the college and others, fighting alongside other mercenary companies such as Black Company and the Tirvin. It was during this time that Dróttinnlauss was able to demonstrate their trained skill at arms, as light and fast skirmishers. Capable of sewing discord and interference among enemy ranks. What was first thought of as disposable bodies, quickly made a name for themselves as skilled warriors and dependable scouts. While some of the original members fell in these battles; those that survive still hold to the same ideals, passing them on to the new faces calling themselves Dróttinnlauss today.

One warm spring day in 1117, while the rest of Dróttinnlauss were fulfilling other contracts away from the warhost, the company’s founder, Holt, wandered alone into the Teutonian camp looking for work. He was hired for the following three days and went to make himself useful.
Taking part in faction training, guarding and scouting, as well as joining the Teutonians in battle. For this Drusus Caesar extended an offer of citizenship and a humble hunting lodge to Holt and those known as Dróttinnlauss, in return for their service to the Teutonian empire.
