Munster

Located in the North West of Teutonia on the border of The Black Forest and situated on the bank of the River Aa and close to the Ulandi Mountains, the city of Munster is a wonderful display of natural and manufactured architecture coming together to create of the most aesthetically pleasing cities in all of Teutonia. It is well known for its beauty, rich and fertile farmlands, high-quality vineyards, hospital orders and the Dwarven Subterranean city of Az Gauhnith Grimst.

Defences

The city walls have several gates for access into the city limits. These gates are all guarded by their own gate houses which controls their respective draw bridge that grants passage over the cities moat. Its own division of the cities Militia guards each operate from their own Gatehouse, with the division having its own barracks close to their respective gate. As well as having a defendable draw bridge that is raised when under threat, the gatehouse bolsters two large metal gates on either side of the gate, and a gate situated in the middle. Should an enemy force bypass the moat and attack the gate, they must get through these three obstacles, all the while being bombarded by defenders above them, with arrows and hot oils.
At the same time the city has two river gates, allowing the River Aa to run through the city. In times of war these gates are easily defended by similar defences to the other gatehouses, and like the others are also manned.

History

Munster is named for the cathedral built in memory of Lord Conrad Eisenburg.

At some point in its history the town that would become Munster fell under the rule of the Eisenberg family. It would be the religious Lord Conrad that would grow the town to its city statues and ultimately provide its new namesake. Upon Lord Conrad’s death, his Will decreed that his family fortune would be donated for the express purpose of building a cathedral to the gods.

A once magnificent feat of construction and dedication to the entirety of the Teutonian pantheon, it was sadly destroyed during the Python rebellion of 1113. Albert Von Wolfsburg, head of the uprising, concentrated his initial attacks on the North West regions of Teutonia. During a significant assault on the city, the Cathedral spire was struck by siege weaponry, leavling a large portion of the building. It wasn’t long before munster fell, despite a valiant defence from the city forces led by the Knights from the Ritter Von Munster.

Following the conclusion of the Python rebellion in 1115, Munster was returned to the control of Lord Vintar Eisenberg, son of Conrad. He moved the headquarters of the Ritter to the ruins of the Cathedral, where htye now train the next generation of Knights tasked with the city’s defence while repairing the structure to its former glory.

In 1118, Lord Vintar returned to Munster with most of his entourage to oversee the Cathedral’s restoration. Lord Vintar adopted Alric Brazzenhammer, a member of the Brazzenhammer clan from Az Gauhnith Grimst, to be his brother before ceding his lands and titles to him to focus on the rebuilding of the Cathedral with the rest of his order.

Lord Alric Brazzenhammer Von Munster has led the city since Vintar stepped away from his responsibilities and, thanks to his heritage, has successfully fostered a closer relationship between Munster and Az Gauhnith Grimst, acting as the representative of Munster on the Independent Dwarven Council.

Points of interest

The People’s hospital of Teutonia
Once a vineyard belonging to the knightly order of the Ritter Von Munster, the building was granted to Primus Edana to be converted into a space of healing and education for the people of Munster and Teutonia.
Surgeons that train at this facility are highly sought after across the nation as the quality of the teaching and research that happen here always keep the Hospital at the forefront of physical scholarism.
Primus Alyth continues to use the vineyard to fund the hospital, and the wine is much sought after by connoisseurs, being considered unique due to the herbs grown on-site being used to infuse the wine with various flavours and medicinal properties.

The Damacest Free Hospital
At the same time as Primus Edana was establishing the People’s Hospital, a religious order from Albion, The Hospitalers also opened the Damacest Free Hospital. Close allies with the Knights of Ritter, they were asked to aid the people in the city as many were suffering from lifelong ailments and injuries caused by the Python rebellion some years earlier. Originally this hospital was nothing more than a small chapel inside The People’s Hospital. Still, as more Dwarves from Albion arrived, and the city's population grew considerably, they expanded into their own premises in the same neighbourhood.

The Eisenberg Family Home
The Eisenberg family has owned the land of Münster for generations, but it wasn’t until the death of Conrad Eisenberg that Münster and in turn the Eisenberg family grew. Using the families own funding, Conrad Eisenberg commissioned the construction of a grand cathedral, as the cathedral was being built, a village and later a small town began to take shape around the site.
Vintar Eisenber is the current lord of the Eisenberg family, but following raids by Goblins, his wife and child were killed, leaving Vintar and in turn house Eisenberg without an hair.

Geography

Munster is located amongst rich farmlands and mineral deposits and, as such, is an incredibly prosperous city. Its location on the River Aa allows for easy trade of food and supplies to Berlin and the Hague. Tunnels made under the Ulandi Mountains from Az Gauhnith Grimst and the Drow City of Ynsilan connect Munster to Wolfsburg in the west, allowing for the trade of rare items such as spider silk and alchemical reagents.
